Raced a 1.8T Jetta

right the early engines had 150hp at the crank, not the wheels. (approx 130whp) The newer engines, have 180hp at the crank and ~165whp. vs. the MSP at 170hp crank and approx 150whp.

The Jetta has great off the line torque, but the engine dies at like 5800rpm...In stock form is has no very top end.

Yes, the 1.8T turbo spool is a pretty loud whistle.

I can say from first hand experience, my 02 1.8T will take down an MSP. I have the GLX upgraded suspension with the 17" wheels, but yes it is heavy, but can still get in and out of the corners pretty well. And it's THEE most aerodynamic Jetta ever. IIRC, the 1/4 mile time was around 15.2 @ 90 something MPH

Heck, my 1st gen BP kinda keeps up 1-2, as i shift to 3rd gear the Jetta leaves me behind. But i smoke it in the corners :)

I put the boots to a new GTI today. Ran him up to the end of third gear and he gave up, about 1.5 car lengths behind me at that point. I have my MBC set to 9 psi.

when i was stock i could put 3-4 car lengths on this kids 1.8t w/intake.
When he turned his chip on, he would slowly leave me by bus lengths.
