R.I.P. Tyson :(

Thats a real shame man.
we have always had pets and we all know that they ARE a member of the family.
Chi I really am sorry for your loss.

he is cute an I can tell he made you and your peeps happy.

The guy who hit Tyson came back shotly with the police. He offered to pay for the dog, but when I told him how much he costed me he freaked.

I think all the "mini's" have that kind of cute, 'I didnt do anything' kind of face. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. My dog is a special part of my family too. When he got lost before, I cried my eyes out thinking that I would never see him again. Thankfully, he was found not too far from the house each time. He doesnt get loose from a leash, but if you leave the door open, he'll head for the hills. I dont know what I'd do without my dog, especially if he got hit by a car. My old dog is laid to rest in the backyard too, he was a beagle. He died from ProHeart (a dewormer given by the vet that killed him a month later). Seems like no matter what you do, you can't always protect him from other situations, illnesses or accidents. :( It was just his time to go.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I used to have a mini pin. His name was Raven. He swore he ruled the world. Those dogs have such great personalities. I wish i could get another one, but we just rescued a pup from West Virginia and we got him on tuesday. sooo sorry.

Sorry to hear about your loss, he seemed like a greatly loved pup.

If you choose to bring a new pup into your life, please try to adopt from a shelter.

We got our dog from a dalmation rescue and he's part Great Dane and Dalmation. So he's huge and spotted. lol Doesnt look like a mutt at all. But he came trained even! So maybe you can find it in your heart to give a special someone a loving home that REALLY needs one. And some of these rescues are breed specific, so just give it a shot.

lara, did your dog have worms prior to the proheart medication? i dunno, my microbio teacher said don't give your did medication if it already has worm cause all it does is leave holes in the dogs heart.

I dont know if he did or not. I only had him for about 2-3 months after I got him from the pet store (which I will never do again). He went in for a check up at the Vet's office and they told me that he needed to get a heart worm preventative and a shot or two. I said well, ok... you're the vet.. what they hell do I KNOW? So they did and a month later, he died. Now mind you, when he started getting sick right afterward, I called the vet. I told them that he had diareah and was crying and yelping alot. She gave me some anti-diareah pills or something to give to him in his food. It didn't help. Before I could call back, we woke up one morning to find him deceased in his doghouse outside, with blood coming from his nose and ears. Seems to me like he had a hemmorage of some sort, but I'm not a doctor. We asked the neighbors if they saw anything or knew what happened? We fed him and played with him that afternoon before going to bed in the evening and he was fine. The neighbor said the same thing. He said "he was just barking and running around yesterday afternoon." Which was when we had seen him last too. He had already stiffened and since we were already heartbroken, we just decided to bury him then and there. I called the vet to b**** at them, but they said it wasn't their fault and it may have been something underlying from before I took him home from the pet store.

I spoke to several people that lost their dogs at that time, they also said that before their pets had died also, their vets had given them Proheart. Their animals (all different breeds) had died within 30 days of being given the medication. They sent a letter to the FDA to complain about the problem. I dont know what ever happened with it, I'm assuming probably nothing.

Wow, thats a shame. I know my cousin would always buy her dogs from a pet store and they all were always sick. all the dogs i ever had we got from breeders and they were just fine. I just adopted a pup from a rescue group on tuesday though. And i have a vet visit next tuesday night. He seems to be in great shape and i hope nothing is wrong with him. He looks like a german shepard but he has these HUGE DROOPY EARS like a bloodhound. He has one brother left at the shelter that i wish someone would adopt. his name is adam. he is such a cutie. And they are very very socialized and love people!!!

Laura, i am sorry you had to go through that. i wouldnt know what to do if i seen my dog like that. That is such ashame. No one deserves to see their dog go through that. I hate when doctors dont listen to you even though you know there is something wrong. Thankfully, my boyfriends mom works at an animal hospital. I also just got Miles some health insurance today. He actually came with one month free health insurance, but i signed up with a better plan. its only 30 bucks a month and covers 6000 illnesses.

well everyone have a great weekend, im outta here!!

it usually isnt a good idea to get dogs from a pet store (especially chains like petsmart). most of the time they are sick (not to mention, overpriced like a mofo). its usually much more beneficial to find a local breeder of the type of dog you want and buy through them, or adopt one. breeder are usually (but not always) people who breed them becasue they love the animals, therefore you know that they healthy and well taken care of.

fyi, the parrotlet we just got came from a local breeder. i would never buy one from a pet store.

Hmmm... That never even crossed my mind. Thats a good idea. Thank you guys.

Good for you guys !! All of my family's Dogs have been rescuees (7 So far) and they've all been great, not a bad one in the bunch. It's as if they know that they've been rescued and are appreciative of that fact. Just make sure to take your time and make sure that the shelter has a good reputation.

We personally prefer No-Kill shelters over those that practice euthanasia, but go with whichever has the best reputation in your area.

This Site has a pretty good list to start with for the Illinois area. Good Luck!
