Quiz of the day: how many exhaust gasket on a MSP?

I tried to search but couldn't find the answer.

Is there a gasket on the downpipe --> catback?

then a paper like gasket on every junction of the stock exhaust?

I wish I have the repair/parts manual for the car.......... (attn)

s-pipe/j-pipe has one. second cat to catback has one. i can't recall if the catback to axleback has one

I jsut picked up some "universal" 2.5 inch gaskets today for my custom exhaust. It was a local parts store, but you can find what your looking for. Ill try to get you the sizes tonite, after about 10ish.

thanks buddy. You mean you are picking up the gasket for the "cat to exhaust" or "downpipe to cat"?

I believe either one of those have a spring flange, do they use the same type of gasket?

there is a gasket from the s-pipe to the down pipe, there is no gasket connecting the downpipe to the midpipe but there is a gasket connecting the midpipe to the axleback

Thanks, I understand the axleback part but isn't there also another connection point which require an exact gasket at where the cat meet the midpipe?

No one said the exhaust manifold gasket. Yeah I know what you meant though. What are you replacing?

well I didnt have time to get on Mitchells at work, so Im gonna have to dig through my paperwork here to find my exhaust diag.

Ok its not in my MSP binder I got, so Im still looking for the Diag. SO going from memory, there is a 3 bolt gasket from the S pipe to the J pipe, the J pipe is conneted to the Cat pipe via a ball and socket flange (no gasket) the Cat pipe is connected to the mid pipe via a 2 bolt flange and gasket, the mid pipe is connected to the axle back via a 2 bolt flange and 2 bolt gasket.

So in total from the S pipe back you have 3 gaskets, 2 are 2 bolt and 1 is 3 bolt. I dont remember the hole diameter or the offset of the bolt holes. Hope that helps a bit.

that helps.
I am suspecting an exhaust leak from either the cat to midpipe or midpipe to axleback or BOTH.

Will get to those when I install the cartboy hanger.......

thanks again
