I'm sorry if this is a repeat question.. I cannot find a definite answer by searching. If I have a forged engine, is it possible to use a Unichip temporarily until I save up enough for a Haltech or Microtech?

sure, but why spend the money on the unichip if you plan on replacing it later? save the money from buying the unichip, and you'll be that much closer to getting the ecu you want

Yes you can. I'm doing it right now. Still running stock turbo & injectors though. The preloaded tune is not perfect, due to the 8.5:1 compression and all the mods on my car, but it's decent. Soon I will be making attempts to have it tuned for the GT28rs and 560cc injectors I have sitting at the crib, the jury is still out on that one right now though.

Well, is it possible to drive daily (carefully) without any type of tuning at all on a forged engine with stock turbo/injectors, FMIC, AEM Tru-boost/Wideband gauges? I was looking at a Unichip as a possible temporary precaution.. that's all.

I had the same question for Dana at speedcircuit(aka Kooldino)...he told me that you do not need EMS right away and that the stock ECU will work on a forged engine even when changing to the 8.5-1 comp ratio.

i would guess that the cpu would somewhat learn the engine and it would work...but it'll probably be quite annoying and difficult to drive. EMS is teh sex. I believe the Unichip can sometimes be tuned for larger injectors, though insanely difficult... i think it depends on the module though, ya'll know how they like to act up.

come to think of it, unichip and msp have a lot in common that way... some are great on any given day, others terrible...hmm...conspiracy. /rant.

Unichip works but the MAF is the restrictor. You can only run up to an X amount of boost before it cuts out and runs out of fuel. I have yet to try larger injectors on it. You can run the motor on stock ecu on stock boost and drive it normal until you can get the EMS you need.

I will try it out with the larger injectors before I switch to the Haltech E8.

What is the most you can do with a UC and stock MAF?

Old, but bumping for an answer to this question. I have the SS AFC but can't figure out why my car won't start (radio works fine, just won't crank), so was thinking of the Unichip.. or running on stock until I can get the Haltech later on. Right now I am forged, have an AEM wideband, Greddy Profec II. Would it be a bad idea to up the boost to say 12 psi without the Haltech or any EMS, just with what I have?

Now it won't start!?

I tried a unichip for a month on my build(lower comp) motor/stock turbo @ 7-8psi and it was nice. I felt like trying one since the stock ecu is pathetic. I would of needed a custom tune and said forget it since it would hurt the resale value. If you go easy and stay below 9psi...I say do it.

It depends on your other mods. I can tune it on larger injectors as big as 440s right now. Haven't tried anything larger since no one has brought me a car with injectors larger than that.
