quick question about oil.

before i head off to bed i have 2 quick questions. i'm doing my oil change tomorrow and i searched the forums and came across this assumption. for the oil i need to put in 10w30 or 5w30 and the filter size K&N HP-1004. but where is the drain plug located and i only need to put in 3.7 quarts of oil correct? i plan on buying some synthetic oil, thinking mobil 1.

thanks in advance.

10w30 ok for warmer climates, 5w30 if cooler. 3.7 quarts if not using 626 filter. That filter is a little longer allowing right at 4 quarts. Not sure of k&n part number - been using purolator micronic. I also been using castrol syntech but plan to start using mobil 1 high 15000 high mileage next time. It has extra whatever in it to make it last longer between changes & is about 1$ more a quart...........

drain plug on back side of pan facing rear of car to the left of exh pipe if looking under car from front. Mine is magnetic replacement so size is different from stock but think stock is 14 or 15 mm...............

dont forget the little brass washer, drawing a blank on what its called that keeps the oil from leaking from the drain plug.....

Funnily enough, it's called a sump plug washer. Or drain plug washer. Or replace "washer" with "gasket" and it's the same thing. Mine was aluminium, not brass.

theres supposed to be a washer in there? i've done all my own oil changes (with the exception of the first couple) and have never seen that...maybe that explains why the bottom of my oil pan always seem to have a little oil on it...

yea, it's fall now and it's a lot cooler down here. so i'll go with the 5w30. i got the k&n number from a thread on our filters. i'll go double check on that. i'm also going to do a flush and see how that goes. lots of fluid on this cool florida day.

my dad keeps telling me to go take it to firestone so they can do the change for like 10-20 bucks but i also need a flush so i think i'll save some money (thumb)

in florida it shoudnt get nearly cold enough to be counted as cooler climates, you should be fine with 10w30 year round

well i'm going to weather site to look up temps right now
it's supringly cool for this early in the year.

I do not know if the HP-1004 will fit. Is the oil entry hole the same size ?

I have been using Mobil 1 5W30 with OEM filter or K&N HP-1008 (depending what is available at the time).
The HP-1008 is not always easy to find.

alright i'll wait alittle before i go to parts store to pick everything up. they should have that number i take it? i'll try it that order: k&n, oem, and then wix. those the correct part numbers to give them for a exact match?

alright i'm going to go drive around and see who has all the necessary items and what not. if i cant find anyone i'll just get the oil changed and radiator flushed at a place like firestone for a few bucks.

Still no replies.

OEM stuff you will find at the dealer. K&N at the performance shop.
All the other places will sell you FRAM and Purolator which are not good choices.
If you are stuck, just take what they have and change your oil and filter again after 3K or so.
