Norton is the best one out there IMO....McAfee is also excellent, but I feel Norton is just a tiny bit better.

There are three things that make a good AV product:
Heuristics - discovering new viruses based on what other viruses look like. This technology is the most important thing because it is your only protection against a new unknown virus.
Updates - the turn around time between when a virus is discovered (by heuristics or other means) and a signature update is available for download by the vendor.
Features - This is the least important but can be the most noticable day to day. The product must have real-time scanning. It should allow you to customize what files are scanned in real-time. You should be able to exempt folders, files, file-extension, processes, etc...to speed up your normal operations. For example, you may want to exempt your mp3 player so the scanner doesn't have to scan every 3-5mb mp3 file that is opened...or you could just exempt *.mp3 to do the same thing.

Just uninstall Norton and clean out the registry w/ all traces of it. Then re-install. BAM! One more year of free subscriptions

I'm not sure this will work. "Get" yourself the corporate edtion, 9.0 is the current one. No subscription needed.

We use McAfee (bunch or Network Associates softwares) at work and i use Norton at home ... i like the way Norton looks and works better than McAfee, but McAfee released alot more updates than Norton ... sometimes i feel like i may not be fully protected with Norton. Or maybe they do release alot of updates ... it sends them to my PC automatically, so maybe i just dont see the notification all the time.

We get an email here whenever NAI releases a new update for mcafee. ive seen as many as 3 updates in the same day back when msblast and nachi decided to make us work a bit

I just bougtht Zone Alarm security suite, and I think it's very good. it comes with antivirus, popup blocker and offcourse the Firewall. I recomend it. I had Norton in the past and had a lot of problems with it.

EZ trust firewall and antivirus are my fav. I just forgot where you can find it. I think it's Trend Micro though.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that won't work. They more than likely store your subscription info on their own servers, so people can't do things like that. If they don't, then I'm not sure I would trust them to protect my computer.

We use spybot , i havent had any problums with it
spybot and lavasoft ad-aware are good for spyware and other malware, but they don't check for viruses.

I am on the development team for the eTrust Antivirus Enterprise Edition. EZantivirus is a great product for consumers and network admins are crazy not to consider eTrust Antivirus for their networks. It is, by a long shot, the most robust antivirus solution on the market and can manage all of your Windows, Mac, Linux, Solaris, and HPUX machines on the network from a single machine.
