Questions about turbo's in the P5

I have been pondering the idea of putting in a "small" turbo into my 03.5 P5 w/AT. I know that this could be a not so good idea, but if the turbo was small enough (3-6 in the boost department), w/ a boost control it should work. I have seen the horror pics of people blowing up their tranny's by putting more than 12psi in them, and I would want to avoid this at all cost.

what kind of brand part should i be looking for?

what is the associated cost for a mod like this (average)?

I heard mitsubishi makes a small one for the evo would this fit?

I am not looking for speculation and would be greatly helped by true information on the subject. (godown)

there are tons of threads about turbos on the p5, your best bet is to check out the Forced Induction section in the forum index. there are also numerous used kits for sale by members here, check out the for sale section.

that said, it is not as simple as bolting on a turbocharger. you will need pipes, a new exhaust manifold to mate the turbo to the engine, fuel management of some kind (mechanical or electronic). if the turbo has an integrated wastegate you do not even need a boost controller. it has been generally agreed that up to 6 psi can be run safely on the automatic transmission. there are kits from hiboost, bell engineering and mental addiction motorsports, as well as a few others.

this is the link to the kit i use and it has been shown to work well on AT : http://www.bellengineering.net/Pages/products_protegesystems.html

excellent! this is the response that I am looking for! question though. you did the same mod on your P5? What do you run daily and when does BEGi system kick in? Also with this kit system can you run boost safely on existing stock tranny and axel parts other than those provided with the kit? (beefy clutch and external fluid cooler...) I am not looking to race or drag...all i want is to have a little more power and speed. (let say 50 more hp) I would be fine running at 3psi and going 5-6psi MAX.

is this do-able?

i have this turbo kit on my protege5 and run 8 psi. the onset into boost is very smooth and the t3 reaches full boost around 3000 rpm. stock trans, axles, engine are all fine. if you ran 6psi on this kit with thier off road downpipe you would see an increase of around 60 hp. 6 psi would be safe for this car.

just to clarify you have an automatic trans? labour cost or do it your self? (difficult electronic?)

you should pm myself or Captain KRM about another option available for you. (yes)

Hey everyone, I also have an AT and still debating on either going NA or FI. Supposedly I go FI i was considering the Hiboost Turbo Kit and I emailed Juan what is safe on an auto tranny and the max boost would be at 7psi. My question is if I run 7psi daily is a tranny cooler highly recommended?

Thanks In Advance
