i changed my oil and oil filter a couple of days ago and i notice i lost a ton of acceleration...can some one explain whats going on?....i used penzoil sae 10w-30

Changing oil will not make any noticeable difference in performance, unless you overfilled it enough to cause the crankshaft to be whipping the oil. 5w-30 will help on cold starts but will not otherwise give better performance.

no, i don't think i overfilled it i only put about 3 1/2 qts., it might be something else and im blaming the oil.....also today in the morning when i was heading to work i turned the car on and my exhaust started smoking but it stopped right away!! "i don't know whats wrong with my car"...........

What color? This is important.
Sounds like the Chevy salute, on startup that is merely your valve guide seals and is not fatal. (black/blue smoke)

BUT since you say you are losing performance, you may be losing compression and blowing oil out the back from wear in your piston rings.

i didn't know about that! when it gets cold down here in houston tx....ill change to 5-30.....i learned something new today.......tanks for the info but it still kinda hot on this side..
LOL, the location coordinates in my profile avatar deal = Houston,TX. I never run 5-30 here. It doesn't get cold enough ever. Had your location said Houston I wouldna even brought that up.

If this is even legit....I hope you rechecked EVERYTHING. Make sure you didn't loose all your oil somewhere.(lol2) No oil in your motor may give you a slight decrease in performance. Oil fliter is on tight and the old filter still has the O seal on it. filler cap back on etc? What else was messed with under the hood?
