After hooking up my new CAI, everything is working fine, but I was wondering about the plastic cover at the bottom of the motor... Do I cover it back up or do I just leave it out?

Right now the cover is back on, but seems to me that the CAI isnt getting much air...then again I could be wrong?

What did you guys do?

P.s. I have a Mazdaspeed3.

I left the plastic splash guard in place. It is recommended to keep it on as it will not only keep the bottom part of your motor "cleaner", but also directs airflow under the car better.

Not sure, but there is a second peice of plastic that directs the air into the stock intake. If this is what you are refering too I would suggest you take it out as you do not need it. The splash gaurd itself protects your cone enough. Having the second peice of plastic is only diverting air the wrong way and as you have stated, the CAI is not getting the full airflow it should be.

i had mine on, and then hit sumthin and it busted. Now that its off i got all kinds of dirt and s*** under there. If you take it off lemme know, ill buy it off you. haha

yes, you have to remove the splash shield for the install, but definitely put the splash shield at the very bottom back on, but the air diverter on the inside needs to be removed. especially with the placement of the cone so low, you do not want to risk getting water in there
