Question about changing tranny fluid-MP3-

I am about to change the tranny fluid on my MP3 and I have some questions. I bought the redline MT-90, 3 quarts. I see the drain plug and it just needs to drain, like a oil change. The guy at the dealer says it gets poured in from the top. So I guess that I pull off the shifter and it pours in from there?? This is what he tells me, so before I go ahead and do it I just want to double check. I looked in the how to section and I did not see a thread about it. I am sure a few people here have done it so I am asking. Any help is appreciated.

that would be the funniest tranny fluid change ever. :D

there is another bolt facing straight forward from the tranny. this is the fill hole. fill it up until it cant fill anymore (make sure your car is level)

dont go tearing apart your interior, its all done under the hood. you can squirt it in like i have in the attachment or use a hose and funnel to fill from the top.

how do you know when the car is leveled... i thought it was, but right now im experiencing alot of grinding in 3rd gear... im goin to try ti fill it up again....

did you grind any? i put 3 whole bottles... but i used a hose to let the fluid drain into the hole... when i pulled the hose out it had alot of fluid left in the whole... I then put my finger in the hole and check the fluid. It felt a little low and when i drove it was grinding in 3rd like a mad man. so then i bought another bottle n used a little more from that... n i didnt grind as much. mayb it needs a bit more? or mayb im just overdoin it?

It takes a shade less then 3 quarts, and putting in 3 quarts doesnt hurt. Hows the tranny now?? still grinding??

When I change mine I will have my car up on 4 ramps so it can be level. I also am using redline RT-90, all the people I spoke to said this is the best to use. I hope all goes all when I do it. The last thing I want is a tranny issue-thank god for extended warranties.

When I first changed my tranny fluid, I used Mobile 1 and in would grind in 3rd like no other. That bothered the s*** out of me so I changed it again and went to redline MT-90. The shifting tightened up a little bit and the grinding went away instantly.

Mt90 is awesome. yes, you can use a funnel and a tube to pour it down. some other people use pumps.

I happen to be changing my tranny fluid in the next month or so, and would rather save myself the dough and do it myself than pay the dealer to. I will be using redline, but currently I have the factory crap in the car. Do I need to do a full flush prior to adding the redline (how would I do this), or do I just drain the crap that's in there and pour in the new stuff?? (I have about 80,000km or 50k miles on the car) Where do I drain the fluid (pic pls)?

TIA!!

i have the good amsoil tranny fluid in my P5 and it is pretty good.....will last the life of my tranny/car.....3 qts used!

just look at the bottom of your tranny, you will see a drain spot, i think you will have to use a 19mm socket. oh, the fill hole for the tranny is 22mm socket, so you will have to get one that big. or use big pliers, but you risk stripping it... so a socket will be easier.

you don't have to do a flush unless you really want to. i didn't.

I know for sure you will need a 23mm socket for the fill plug on the MP3.

yup had to buy a socket for that... they have one at autozone for 6 bucks. no rentals it sucks. and ya i might just try mt-90 redline fluid later in the future... i just changed it and dont want to waste my money as of right now. i rather fix up other problems. if i let the revs down to about 2.5k and shift into 3rd gear most the time it doesnt grind at all.

When mine was grinding in 3rd, I just got in the habit of double clutching it and it was cool.
