Quarter Panel tire rub

So heres my problem...i own a '03 protege 5 and just put 18" R1 "drift" rims on my car. The rear passenger tire is rubbing against the quarter panel. The offset is a bit off for the car and i had the fenders rolled by the tire shop. My concern is with any weight in the rear the smallest bump sends the tire right into the body. I really love the rims so im trying to stay away from swapping them for something else. Ive been talking to my shop about possible fixes and right now it looks like swapping the shocks and struts with some Tein's is one of my only options. This would be great aside from the fact its going to lower the car another inch possibly only compounding the issue. My question is....with a tight enough suspension will i eliminate enough body roll and lateral movement to eliminate the rub? if anyone has had similar issues id love to hear your fix.

I gotta' say it - wheel/tire combo doesn't fit. If you already rolled - and you still have a rub...

how close is it? if you're in love with the rims, you could have the hubs machined a few mm, or you could try a narrower tire

Pictures??

Wheel width and offset????

Tire size your running?????

Any information like this would actually help....

you could bag it, even if you just do the rears, it will give you the adjustability.

adjustable coilovers are the path of least resistance.

i guess that would have helped eh?

they are R1 Drifts. 18"x8" offset is 40

tires are Nexen N3000. i believe they are 235/40ZR18.

Having the panel rolled helped quite a bit, still concerned that with any compression on the springs im screwed. i have no problem changing the suspension as it needs to be done soon anyway if that will fix it. I know stock offset is 50mm, but id love to get around this. hah

ill have pics soon. hope this helps a bit more.

holy sh@#! pardon my language, but that width/offset and tire size are not even CLOSE to fitting

did a shop pick those sizes for you?

if you want to try to make it work, the first step would be to put some 215/35-18 tires on

I'm not convinced with such a low offset (considering 8" width) that even that will work, but you will have a lot more clearance than you do now

Rims too big
Offset is not high enough
and
Tires are too big

try 215s on the tire first..

Not a chance.
I have 18x8 rims with -47 offset, and 215 wide tyres and still had to roll the arches. I'm lowered on Eibach springs.
The rims where originally -50mm offset, but I fitted a 3mm spacer.

235 rubber and a 40 offset won't just rub your fender, it will more than likely wreck them if you hit a decent bump/dip.

You can do this.... what you need to do is run a 215 or 205 and stretch it out... Stiffer springs will help you also but what you need is some coil-overs w/ camber adjustment... If you adjust your rear camber to around -2.5 degrees I would say you will definitely clear... Then you'll have that "drift" look. LOL But anyways, if/when you buy the coil-overs you need to get your car aligned pronto... the negative camber won't wear the tires very badly it's the negative or positive toe that will destroy your tires. But doing this should definitely get you clearing it... You might not even need that much camber but that's what I ran on my civic, and I loved it.
