Purchasing a salvage title MP3?

I'm looking at a used MP3 soon, but the VIN shows it as a salvage title. The car is out of state and I'm in Massachusetts.

* It has a Salvage Title
* It was sold at a salvage auction
* The current owner had it repaired and indicates that it is roadworthy and rides well.

Even if it has been repaired, should I assume that my insurance company would not insure this vehicle since it has been declared a total loss at some point? Since it is out of state, will the state I'm in (Mass) let me title it here and register it -- will they require some kind of inspection?

My question -- ultimately should I make this purchase? He's basically asking blue book value for this vehicle.

Thanks!

Chuck

well, the protege i owned was had a salvage title, after i bought it i found out that when turning to the left, you could feel the left side rising a little, and the transmission was failing with the O/D crap and MIL stating that a sensor was not working, and i changed it and it wasn't, also i paid more for basic insurance than what i'm paying for a full cover 2003 tribute

Just my $.02

EDIT: also forgot to mention, when i bought the car, it didn't have the MIL and didn't do the O/D flashing thing..

He's asking BB? No f'ing way. I wouldn't do it. Maybe half BB..

That's about exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for all the experience and wisdom on this topic. I'm sure it was painful, but maybe others can benefit... even if it sucked to go through it.

nice MP3,i wish i had money to buy it, lol
BTW, any updates of your MSP?
repairs have just begun this afternoon. i should get an estimate on when its finished and how much everything will cost tomorrow or monday.

I would be very careful about buying a salvage titled car. Plus, there is no way in all hell I would ever pay blue book for it. That's crazy, and the person selling it for blue book must be crazy himself. If the car is in good shape (other than the salvage title) offer him like 4k for it.
