PS2 or XBOX

If you got the money and you are totally video game crazy, it would be ideal to just get both. But if you can only get one or the other, it really depends on what kind of games you want to play. For example...if you really want to play Halo 2, you'll have to get an Xbox since it's an exclusive Xbox title.

San Andreas is supposed to come out for xbox & PC June 7th '05 according to an RockStar press release.

Yeah, got a PS2 for our son for Xmas. Only one we could find was the new, tiny one. It plays audio CD's only. Out of 4 new games (and a dozen old), it started only one of them once and froze. Froze up playing a movie too. Probably be a couple weeks before we can get it swapped out, since they're so hard to find in stock. But we have an original playstation so we need the compatibility. :(

[Update] After searching online it sounds like Disc Read Errors on the PS2 are pretty common, and it's just luck if you get a unit that works well. My boy has a friend with an original PS2 that has started getting read errors too. There are instructions online to open the case and adjust the laser but I'll try to get it exchanged first since it's brand new. Otherwise I may just forget it and we'll live with the old PS until the next generation comes out which may be next Christmas.

A friend of mine that works at EA and another that write programs for Creative labs has pretty much confirmed that the Xbox is a better choice overall. I think I'll pick it up Friday.

spent literally all day yesterday playing Halo 2 co-op with a friend on a 94" screen, wide screen. ******* awesome. It was storrmy out, we were stuck inside. halo2 in wide screen/split screen is awesome because it's splits the screen vertically instead of horizontally.

gotta get me one of these dlp projectors. Either that I don't return the one I have from work :)

xbox all da way.

Anyone else know of any good co-op games for xbox? I only get this projector for a few more days.

I heard good reviews about Ghost Recon 2.

Good choice. Get Halo 2 so I can kick your butt on line. :D
I'm so pathetic at that game. GF little brother whopped my ass 15-0 in juggernaut.

xbox 2 is xmas 2005. And Halo 2.5 is a launch title, and it'll be in HDTV format, and will come with the hard drive

OXM was the first to report about Halo 2.5 revealing that the game is planned as an Xbox 2 launch title but now youre going to read the very first details, straight from one of our most trusted sources:
Halo 2.5 will be an Xbox 2 launch title and is going to run in HDTV resolution with new, improved textures and graphical effects. All the stuff that people expected from Halo 2 but didnt make the cut will be there.
The technology that powers Halo 2 has been designed from day one to take advantage of the next generation hardware, the insider added. In Halo 2, the Xbox was pushed to its limits but now the game will reach new heights with the advanced hardware.

But that is not the only info our insider had for us as soon after he dropped the bomb: Now, here is the twist. Halo 2.5 will come preloaded with the optional HDD. Itll be one of the two reasons to get the Xbox 2 that comes with a hard drive. The other reason well, youll just have to wait
Sounds crazy to us but thats what we have been told. Interestedly, if this is true, the rumor confirms the existence of, at least, two editions of the Xbox successor.

the only thing i hate about my ps2 is the damn power switch on the back! pita! is it still on the back on the slim ps2?
Why is that such a PITA?? I've flipped that switch probably 2 whole times in the 3 years I've owned it! Just use the power button on the front.

I agree. Just leave the switch on, it's just the power supply on/off switch (like a PC). You do know if you hold the power button down on the front of the PS2 for like 3 sec. the thing shuts off right?

Sony PS2 sucks

I didn't see any power switch on the back of the new tiny PS2. But don't upgrade to the slim PS2 if you already have the old PS2- not worth it and the failure rate is to high (I've heard 60 percent on the Disk Read Error problem).

We have to call the Toy's R Us every day starting in January to get an exchange on this DOA unit from Christmas. The girl there said they aren't taking names on a list or anything, and they can't even promise I'll be successful within the 45 day return policy. I suppose at that point I'll just crack the case and try to adjust the laser myself, or send it to the Sony repair center. You'd think Sony would make an engineering change to fix a problem this widespread. I recommend that nobody buy a PS2 at this time. I'd move to Xbox or wait for about 6 months after the PS3 comes out, to make sure it isn't crap also. To bad too, as we've had the original PS since it came out and have never had a problem. I suppose we can always sell the game collection to offset the lose of moving to a different console. Fortuneately we do most of our gaming on the PC's.

Lots and lots of "disc read errors" on the brand, spanking new PS2. I do have to admit though, that the cinemas (MGS3) are quite good. But overall, I like gameplay on my Xbox much better.
