hey there, I'm in the market for a Protege 5, just got to take one for a test drive which changed the question of "if" to "when" I buy one. Now, the car itself I can afford, however, it looks like I'm going to be getting the shaft when it comes to insurance.

The quote I got from my insurance company on a brand new 2003 P5 is $4495 (Canadian) The joys of being a 19 year old male I suppose

so I was just wondering what everyone else is paying in terms of insurance.

$615 USD every six months 22 yr old male with a clean record on my own insurance with Progressive

there are various threads about this if you want a ton of answers. I would suggest the term "insurance" in the search thread.

P.S. for everyone else, I'm not being a dick I just wanted to make sure that Tyler knew that there was already a lot of info at his disposal...

P.S.2. - You really do want to get the P5 Tyler, its the most fun for the money... ;)

holy s*** dude...that's ******!! i pay about $2300 canadian. i'm 24 and have 2 tickets on my record.

shop around...that seems like a hell of a lot of money.

welcome to the site, by the way (hi)

where are you from?

i pay $1300 CAD per year, iam 24 married female, no ticket but i accident 6 year ago.

My 2001 ES used to cost me $635 every 6 months through Progressive. I had a $500 collision deductible and a $50 comprehensive deductible.

damn females! :D

Yeah, I forgot to give you a proper welcome Tyler!

Welcome to the boards and just have a look around. If you make it down from the great white north to Kansas City, then you'll be properly welcomed (cheers)

I'm from Edmonton alberta, no speeding tickets (well 2 photo radar, but those dont count against insurance) and no accidents.

right now I'm paying $2800ish for a 95 Neon, so you can understand why I want to get a P5, but hopefully I can find some better insurance rates, can anyone reccomend any cheap Canadian insurance companies?

went from 1300 USD per Year...to 1000 USD this year.

Because the insurance company are basing rates on Credit History. This is with all the bells and whistles to....

100/300 coverage...thinking of uping to 300/300 coverage for all.

Single/ 27 Male....also live in one of the worst car theft areas...damn sea port...heheh.

Im paying 235.00 a month from Gecko (Geico) It was supposed to go to about 200. but they caught up to me with a speeding ticket from 2 years ago, so now it wont go down for another year. 25, male with just that on my record.

The insurance rates for these cars are absurd. Insurance companies for some reason see these as "sports cars". Currently the insurance is under my dad's name, without me listed as a driver. He pays $2300 a year for full coverage. For his mercedes ml500, he only pays $1800 a year for full coverage, which is also an absurb price, considering we just moved to the city, back in the suburbs, insurance for the ml500 was only $1300 a year for full coverage.

When the p5 insurance gets turned over to me (I'll be 20 then), I'm quoted to be paying about $4200 a year. So the rate you were quoted is just about right.

1360.85 every 6 months. 24, male, single... and i also live in the #6 US city for car thefts. phoenix is #1. goes with the territory, i guess. i would be paying $900 a YEAR in california if i were to have stayed.

Holy rip-off Batman! :wtf:

$987 / year premium
$300 deductable
$100 incidental
Full replacement coverage for 2 years from purchase date.

By the way, I just traded in my SiR, and the insurance for that was $1433 / year, with the same coverage. The P5 is NOT considered a sports car but a family wagon... as stated by OttawaP5.

If you go with progressive they give you a great rate on this car. They dont neccisarily(sp?) look at who the major market for the car is, they just look at the five star saftey rating and if you have ABS its even cheaper. To add this car to my wife and my policy it only added $300 every six months. I am 23 and she is 22. She has a perfect driving record but i got 5 tickets in 6 months 2 years ago. So this is a great rate. Its cheaper than her 2001 Mirage (POS). Progressive also bases your rates on your credit though which is good for us but can suck for other people. Plus if you pay off the whole thing at the begining of the policy term you save like 200$ on intrest.

Ok i just checked and with a $500 deductible we pay $1400 every six months for 2 people under 25 for 2 cars. We are married though so that takes a little off.

I used to pay $1200 every six months by myself when i was eighteen driving a '91 RX-7. So compared to that its a great rating especiallly given my past driving history.
