2003 Protege5
I'm going to be doing the rear brakes on my car tomorrow, I was wondering if any one knows if the protege5 and mazdaspeed Protege share the same pads and rotors cuz the p5 wasn't in the computer system at the parts store I went to so I just wanna make sure the rotors from the speed Protege will work.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry bro, the ES (disc) and the P5 have the same pads and rotors...the Mazdaspeed has different ones. You're going to have to go back and get what you need.

Also: not sure if you have read up on the rear brakes on a P5, but you retract the piston by using an allen bolt hidden behind a cover bolt on each caliper. See the shop manual (stickied in this section) for the proper procedure. If you try to push them back in with a C-Clamp, you'll be at it all day. Be careful with the Allen bolt...if the caliper is sticky enough to strip it, you have to get a new caliper.

Thanks for the help, i actually didnt even buy the parts before i posted that go i ended up getting the right parts.

I have ran into another problem, I am in the process of replacing the calipers too and i got everything off and the new one ready to go back on but the caliper wont clear the pads now.. the piston is out to far for it to go over them. How do you decompress the piston? I read it was an allen bolt some where but i cant seem to find it.....

Can anyone please tell me where the decompression bolt is located? A picture would be awesome! Thanks in advance

Alright a little update..
I ended up just getting just pads for the rears(had about 1/16th of an inch) with hopes that it would fix my e-brake so I could finally get my car inspected.
Well I pulled it apart Saturday night and then found out autozone had gave me the front pads, sweet. So I put it back together and attempted to leave when my caliper blew out.. So i ended up throwing a vice grip on the line to get back to auto zone to get the correct pads, and now a new caliper.
Just installed everything today, and still no e-brake!! Its fully adjusted but does nothing, any ideas fellow mazda enthusiasts?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not too familiar with you problem, so forgive me if I ask questions you've already shared. Did you tighten the allen screws correctly? What I did was tighten them all the way down and back them off 3/4 of a turn, and that was too much. It's ok if the rear pads cause a little friction on the rotor after properly adjusted. I have found that the key to getting the ebrake to work is getting the pads adjusted right with the allen screw on the caliper. Then I would attempt to adjust the adjustment next to the ebrake lever. Have you tried all of those things? I hope that's helpful.
