protege5 article

I like them both. I checked a 3 out Wednesday at Town North Mazda here in Dallas... Didn't drive it - need to do that... Took a co-worker with me to check it out and he wants one now. He liked the motor-driven HID's. :) I had my very first doubts about my car that day... then I felt guilty about thinking of cheating with another so I went home and washed mine - and it was after dark...

I probably won't be waving at the owners of the new 3 wagon. But it's not because I don't like their cars. It's just that they don't hold the same place in my heart.

I have had my car for nearly 2 and a half years and I still go outside to the garage just to smile at it from time to time.

I just love it. Can't stop playing with it.
That's what makes a classic.....IMO

this is exactly how i feel. wheni bought the car i would always do double and triple takes when i parked. i figured it would wear over time and it wouldnt have the same effect but i still get that happy feeling when im about to drive it. and i still turn around to get one last look when i park..................

plain and simple.................p5 = fun and excitement

Yeah whenever I drive home from work, I have two choices.

1, the low mileage, 30 mph speed limit route

2, the high mileage, 50 mph speed limit route.

1 takes 10 minutes, 2 takes about 15.

Whenever I'm driving the P5, I always choose option 2.

i like parking far away so i can look at it while im walking toward it

And you keep bumping into things when you're walking away from cause you keep looking back. lol. I hear that.

I love the P5. Even the most lowly, non-option having P5 still catches my eye. God Mazda did such a great job with its lines. The perfect compromise between hatch back and wagon. No one will ever capture it that well again. If only I could afford to get one in addition to my MSP. Grrr.

The Mazda3 is the natural progression of the whole 323/Protege line.

The 323 built off the GLC. Making it a better and up-market car. The Protege moved up the line some more replacing the 323 sedan. Even the generations of the Protege imporved on the previous.

Although, the second gen is often considered the worst of the three, it was more up-market then the first gen.

And now the 3 comes in a little more up-market. Yes, it is a little more expensive than the Protege 5, but I have yet to see a car for under $20,000 that offers everything you can get in the Mazda3.

i wouldnt trade my p5 for a mazda 3. the 3 just doesnt have that 'look' that the p5 does. yes, hid's and a little more power would be nice, but im am perfectly happy with my p5...

There are payoff when it comes to the 3 that are not worth it..

1. HID's: look nice, and expensive, and give off more light, but hit the fog, HID's are your enemy, they blind you really bad..

2. DVD navigation: nice to have, but a map works just as well for free to a few dollars..

3. that ****** up dash: forget about it, really forget about doing anything to it, cause if you want your own deck, you are just SOL. In the P5, you can get a navagation system, that will play movies, and mp3's and is customizable.

The power would be nice, but if you look under the hood, where is the strut bar gonna go? There is no room..

The lines of the P5 are nie and pleasing to the eye, the 3, well, it's an ugly duckling, too bulky for it's class.

There is plenty of room for a strut bar on the Mazda3...

And the styling is spot on, tieing other points from the entire Mazda line-up into both the exterior and the interior.

Yeah, with no US HID headlights, and no DVD navigation and less power. It sure is...

It will be a cold day in hell before I choose not to buy a car because it doesn't have freaking DVD navigation system! In fact, I'd rather take a car without it.

Buy a map and use the money you save for performance parts.

optional nav system with screen in a car - $1500
custom car computer like Dexter or ELEmentals with navigation, gps, DVD playback and a host of other fucntions with a touchscreen - $1500 or less
