The salesman was nice enough to provide me with the insurance report and it shows that there was a collision in 2005 that was for the amount of ~$1500, a comprehensive claim a few days later for ~$1450, and then a collision in 2007 that has "no details" for amount paid and nature of payment, which I find a little strange.

You don't want this piece if its had two collisions. Keep looking and get the right car. Something stock, not wrecked, and clean. You will regret it if you don't keep looking then see a better deal later. Don't settle for this one.

Maybe I overlooked something but thats a good collision free carfax.

Thanks guys, I definitely appreciate your help!

The ICBC report (provincial insurance corporation) shows that the vehicle was imported from outside of BC, but the Carfax shows otherwise... what gives? I guess the salesman was correct in that they don't need to disclose any collision under $2000, and to be fair, anything under $2000 isn't a bad accident. I'm still considering the vehicle if the price is VERY negotiable. I'll test-drive it this week. :)

i bought my protege5, five speed, everything but leather, for about 9 with trade(10,000 before, he didnt give me much for my high mileage saturn) with just under 50k on the clock. to be honest the only reason i bought that specific P5 was the low miles.

I'd definately say look at a few more P5's if that's what you decided on! That's high even if it was in perfect condition with low miles.

One thing worth mentioning is that mfg. date before around 05/2002 on the drivers door sill had tranny issues. Shiftfork redesign and synchro material change. Even stock vehicles were have problems.

Def keep looking man. I got mine with 75k and 3yrs/60k kms full coverage warranty from the dealer for less than that, just no leather.

Also compared to the RSX, I can't say for the base, but after driving a Type S many times... it's apples and oranges. With the base RSX being even slower, I wouldn't say it's any more fun than a P5. If you're gonna haul stuff too, the cargo room in the RSX will drive you crazy.

But as far as how the car feels, that's up to you. Sit in them and drive them, everyone has different opinions.
