Protege 5 Incentives

don't play too much game with that dealer...
serisouly, it is better you to go to different mazda dealer. or go to edmunds.com and print out the MSRP for protege5. that site even shows intensive prices depending on your zip codes.

Edmunds says the TMV price with the options is $17.7k, and thats before any incentives. $15.2k after incentives. I know I qualify for the $1500, 48 months at 2.9%. Which is only $800 in interest (what i got on my current car), so they could have knocked off another $700 to come up with the $17k I aksed.

So I really don't know why the dealership just doesn't cut the bull and give me the car for $17k. They would have still been above what others are going for since the car now has more then 400 miles.

Thanks Bijou-MP5, cause now I'm going to print that report show it to them and if they don't give me the $16.5 go to another local dealer and take a NEW P5 for $17k.

I'll post up and see what happens.

$18,826.32 selling price
52.57 doc fee
1,463.11 7/3/4% sales tax
15.00 Flat Cook County Tax
143.00 New License & Title Fees
$20,500.00 TOTAL
2,500.00 Customer Rebate
$18,000.00 Due at Delivery

Thats the offer I got from another dealer. Except its a black P5 includes ABS/airbags and the mirror/compass thingy.:)

I told her I wanted the 0% w/ no payments till June. She said I was INSANE. That I wouldn't be able to get it $18k OTD WITH the 0%.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

maybe you need to drive to IN or IA.
like I said it before, I dealer has 18K mp5 but all the rebates and stuff its only 15K right now.
I was going to trade in my current mp5 to that one to get manual tranny but...I don't want to end up paying more..so I backed out.
they should also have dealer intensive cash $500~ 1000.

Looks like a no go for either Protege 5. I even offered the lady for the black one $18.5k She still wouldn't go for it.

Why are dealers doing this to me :'( . Damn I liked that car, but I sure as hell ain't spending more then $18.5k on the black one and not a penny over $17k for the yellow one. Especially after I found out what everyone else is paying.

If anyone lives near the Burbank, IL area and has recently purchased a Protege 5 for around that price please let me know what you did, cause I'm lost as hell.

Thanks to all that helped, but Mazda dealers SUCK ASS  . Owners are cool though :) . (my dad is one ;) )

Later!!!

Actually that reminds me. I have a friend that works for ATA and can get me a plane ticket to anywhere in the US for free.

Where are you located and can I get some dealer phone numbers so I can contact them. Sure don't want to fly down there for nothing.

Thanks for the continued help!!!:)

their dealer name is caruosel mazda. it's in iowa city.
you can find phone # in mazdausa.com zip code is 52242.
they have last yellow mp5 $14900 with rebates. it is manual. just basic, moonroof, cd player...
if they tell you high price, let me know I will talk to one of sales guy. since I'm the only one has modded mp5 in iowa city. they know who I am :D

Color isn't really all that big of a deal to me ( except white, gets too dirty too fast).

However this is what i MUST HAVE:
auto (only reason i'm replacing my cavalier, my most beloved car of all time. my fiance can't drive manual. why won't she learn, :'( )

but this is what i want, which i guess means MUST HAVE PART 2 :D :
leather
moonroof/cd changer
abs/side airbags

let me know if its available

If you have good credit, forget the 0% or 2.9% and take the $2,500 rebate. That's the main thing that seems to be messing up your numbers.

If you have good credit, you can get 4% on a 60 month loan. The interest on $15,000 for 60 months works out to $1,575. So you come out a grand ahead taking the $2,500 and financing the thing yourself.

If you have good credit, the 2.9 is an even worse deal than the 0. You sacrifice $1,000 in rebate to save $80 a year for five years. Ouch.

Of course, you might not have good credit. Have you applied for an auto loan outside the dealer to find out what rate you can get?

Telling the dealer you'll buy the car for X then changing your mind when they agree to your offer is bad news. Figure out what you will pay first.

To figure out who has cars matching what you want, search inventory at mazdausa.com. There are definitely plenty of cars in the Chicago area.

Ask dealers up front what the doc fee will be and whether there are any other fees, a benefits package they'll "require" you to buy, etc. up front. Make sure you're comparing total costs. As far as I'm concerned these fees are all negotiable.

Keep in mind that you're in a state with just about the highest sales tax in the country. This will make your OTD higher than others.

Finally, be a man and refuse to give your GF any until she learns how to handle a stick. Okay, I'm not doing so well with my wife on this front, but I keep buying manuals anyway.

Damn, are you a dealer?

Well I'm at work now so I really can't call up dealers right now. But here is what I'm thinking.

My credit is excellent, I qualified for all financing options through Mazda. So I applied for a loan through Capital One. They offered me 4.99% for 60 months, or 3.99% for 36 months. In either case, like you've mentioned, I'd save over the 0% option. But now it'll come down to the price of the car.

Seeing that I'm paying cash in the dealers perspective, how much should I be getting the following car OTD:
Black P5
Fully Loaded w/ the following options:
Leather
Moonroof / in-dash changer
ABS / side airbags
Roofrack
Polished Wheels
Auto-Dim / compass rearview mirror

Actually, wouldn't that be every possible option?
Once again this was her first offer:
$18,826.32 selling price
52.57 doc fee
1,463.11 7/3/4% sales tax
15.00 Flat Cook County Tax
143.00 New License & Title Fees
$20,500.00 TOTAL
2,500.00 Customer Rebate
$18,000.00 Due at Delivery

I was thinking of calling her and telling her to add the $1000 manufacturer to dealer incentive sell it to me $17k OTD and I'd take care of paying it myself ( i.e. no financing through Mazda).

Well, what you guys think?

P.S. My GF is very thin and short, so she could barely push the clutch all the way down. But the good news is that if I do get the P5, my brother would take my Cavalier, which means I have a FREE weekend car :D .

come to think of it...basically you want all options for mp5... those options are already over 2K...I think that's why dealer is asking that much of money... :(

Well I've been reading that the Protege 5 is going for $15k to $17k. Seeing that I have the ALL options I'd obviously have to pay the higher end of the spectrum. So should I offer $17k? Or is the car actually going for more then what I've been reading.

I would sayif dealer can give you 17K with all those options then go for it, but if you want just basic mp5 then you shouldn't pay 17K. just take your time, don't be hurry.

The dealer cost on the above is 18,483. Subtract $1000 (manufacturer to dealer incentive) and $2,500 (customer cash) and you come up with $14,983. The edmunds true market value says $15,449 which means the dealer is making about $500 from the sale.

First, accept that loan from Capital One (I have used them on my last two car purchases). Have them fedex you the blank check for the amount you qualified.

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding the above combination either seeing as there are arount 25 auto P5's located within a 50 mile radius of zip code 60459 that have at least these options. Check for yourself my going to www.mazdausa.com and choosing search inventory. Sort by price and then find all that are price at $19,985 (msrp for your combination) or higher. Looks like Roto Mazda (27 miles aways) should have a Silver one with your exact options, and Biggers should have one in Yellow.

Next simply call each dealer that had one you are interested in to verify that they still have it and to find out exactly which options it has. Once you have decide on a couple that you want determine exactly what the dealer cost is (like in above example) using edmunds. The dealer should make something...$2-300 bucks or so. Now you have your price.

Now rank the ones you want in order of desirability. Call the dealer of your first choice and tell him you will offer him the amount you calculated above. Be firm and tell them that this is a price you are NOT willing to negotiate. Chances are you will end up getting one of your top three choices.

Now go to the dealer to actually buy the car. Here is where the Capital One blank check will come in handy. Remember, you aren't obligated to Capital One until you actually use the check. The FI guy is going to do anything he can to beat the deal from Capital One because he won't make a dime off the sale if he doesn't arrange the financing. You might get a lower rate or get the same rate with an extended warranty thrown in. Even if he can't beat it, you will be better off getting $2,500 off financing at 4.99% than losing the cash back and financing at 0%.

Shareef -

Same car without the roof rack and auto-dim mirror and with 5 speed was $18,050 selling price at Harold Mazda in Olympia Fields back in August for me. I think sticker was something like $19,100/$19,200. I am really pleased with them; in fact, I stopped by there this morning for an oil change, and saw quite a few P5s left. Another place that was giving quite good quotes when I was looking was Jacobs Twin over on Grand and Cicero. Good Luck.

I got approved for the Capital One loan. I will be receiving the check tomorrow. Its approved upto $18k so I should be able to find the fully loaded P5 that I want, I hope :( .

I'm still currently looking for one in my area but will post up with more info. But I guess I'm one step closer to becoming a Mazda owner .... again :D .

Thats what has been screwing me over the most, was me going for the 0%, but thanks to some clarification by you guys I know that I'm getting a better deal at 4.9% for 60 months. Guess I owe everyone in this thread a dinner ;) .

Update:

The loan was actually for $18k for 60 months @ 4.49%
(not bad for a 22 year old :) )

Found an absolutely fully loaded P5:
If its an option on the P5 then its got it. Black on black leather.
They went down to $18k OTD, but I asked that they remove the polished wheels and sell it for $17.5k OTD. They said that IF they could remove the wheels they'd sell it for $17.6 OTD.

I wasn't talking to the original sales person, so they said they'd give the note to my original sales person and they'd contact me tomorrow.

TMV is $18.8k-$2.5k(cash rebate)+$1.7k(TTL)=$18k OTD

However, I believe this does not include the ($1000) dealer incentive.

I'm thinking if they can't pull off the wheels that I'd still take it $18k OTD. It does have EVERYTHING :D , and its from Harold's Mazda which was extremely polite over the phone, although he did lie to me. He says the $18.8k TMV includes half of the dealer incentive  ? Funny they put the $2500 cash rebate separate, yet they decide to include the dealer incentive automatically, and it isn't even for the customer. Well I would feel so much better at $17.5, but I don't think he'll move.

Sounds right. If you notice at edmunds the TMV is around $500 or so BELOW the invoice. This is because of the manufacture to dealer incentive.
