ok, so everyone bashes the FSDE, wether its the a/f ratio, low hp, not really to boost happy, vtcs. etc etc

so what then are the high points! i think i know a few pros of the FSDE:
tourqy/feel of engine
good tq/hp comparison

any one have there favorite aspects about the FSDE, or anything other sources have said?

i feel stupid too, i didnt know the crank in the protege was forged. i guess that would explain why it held up to 2 spun bearings for 10k miles without blowing up

I believe they do... there was talk about plugging them, before, but I'm not sold on the idea.

Personally, the FS-DE was disappointing to me when I first got it. Great torque, but a really breathless top-end compared to 2 liter motors I'd had previously... except the 626 FSDE, where the damn thing didn't even want to rev past 5500 rpm (an exaggeration, maybe, but that's how it felt).

Compared to the creamy top-end of an SR20, or even a naturally aspirated 4G63, both of which rev past 7k rpms and have bottom ends that can withstand a nuclear blast, it just isn't impressive.

But that excellent torque means that you won't feel so bad about the top end while you're sitting in traffic, and an engine that doesn't make impressive numbers out of the box often responds very well to modification.. . which the FS-DE does.

I'm really into this one now... kind of inspired by one guy who had his old 626 FSDE (118 bhp, FTW!) balanced, blue-printed, equipped with engine-management and a really cool set of 4AGE individual throttle bodies (drool)... 14 second quarters in a heavy stock-bodied car without high compression... hmmm....

I'm trying to see how far this thing can get with bolt-ons only... no funky compression ratios or anything... :D

yeah i do love the torque! It at least feels fast off the line and city driving is fun!

OIL SQUIRTERS! what the beef brisket is that! i know its for cooling but where are they and.....what!

Located just UNDER the piston and squirt underneath it to cool the temp of the piston.

-just pulled the head off of mine and it looks AWESOME. it has like 118k miles but looks like its 20k the Iron block walls look fine and the pistons have no sign of being leaned out or melting.

This car has no torque what so ever nor does it seem to have any....and its funny i found this thread because i was about to ask the same thing..so really only upside of this motor is a forged crank and the oil squitters? because i think ive seen turbo p5s and wow the numbers are quite sad
