Problems with my belts

I had a squeling noise from the belts and I felt my alternator pulley it felt kind of greasy and I'm hoping that it is the problem. How do I clean the pulley and has anybody experienced this also

I would loosen the alt enuf so you can slide the belt off to clean the pulley better. Might need to clean off the belt too

it just feels release greasy and it was clear i couldn't tell what it is tomorrow i plan on taken off both belt and cleaning all the pulley to see if it will work.

I went and fixed my belts everything was fine until i jhit the highway and it started to overheat i have no idea what to do.

We're you able to turn the alternator pulley by hand? And are your belts still intact or did it break and cause you to overheat?

well it may be the thermostat but weird part it cranked up like normal after i came back from work.

could be your thermostat if it cranked up and was running fine. i had to replace mine because it didnt open up properly. its a cheap fix like $10 most and a bottle of antifreeze unless your able to drain it first. but if its not the thermostat then most likley will be the water pump.

I would try the thermostat first. It is cheaper and easier. But just because it was just replaced dose not rule it out. I have had pumps fail hours after install just because of the quality of some pumps people buy. Rare yes but always possible.

is the squealing consistent or just sporadic or whenever you start the car?? nm you got that part fixed according too prior post. my vote is that it the thermostat. unless you got a hose that isnt fully sealed when you preplaced the waterpump.

Here is an update:

I replaced the alternator, the thermostat and valve cover gasket.

the good thing is the car is not over heating anymore.

the bad thing is my belts still have not stop squeling.

put some belt dressing on them and tighten them down some more, just not too tight.

does it squeel with the AC on? if it does it could be bearings going out on the compressor if not then its something else.... just not sure

i took of the belt for the compressor and left on the water pump belt and its the water pump belt that causes the noise also i'm running gatorback belts

How many miles? You may need a new water pump. Timing belt replacement & water pump replacement usually go hand in hand.
