Problem with my AEM Intake

I just installed my AEM intake yesterday. Here's my issue, when the car is idling about every 30 seconds the RPMs drop really low. The car shudders like it is going to die but doesn't. If you pop the hood and listen it sounds like it is sucking to much air. Any ideas? All the connections are very tight but I'm going to recheck them this weekend.

:D thanks.

So you did the whole pressing the brakes for 15 seconds and letting the car idle for 5 minutes after reconnecting the negative terminal?
Just wondering, are you on level ground? Sometimes I get what you're describing but when I'm idling on an incline up.

check your hoses and all connection again. Take it apart and re-install it again and while you're at it make sure all rubber hoses have no crack, and make sure all holes along the pipe are accounted for (especially the little hole for a sensor), cuz it sounds like a leak somewhere along the line...

Thanks for the tip. I was already planning on taking it all apart and putting it back together.

After taking it apart and putting it back together 3 times today I finally figured out what the problem was. Just when I was about to give up and put my stock intake back in I happened to notice that one of the hoses from the purge solinoid had come off. I put it back and it works like a champ.

(yippy) Congraulations! After all the hard work I'm glad to hear it work out for you. Now go and drive around and enjoy it! (yippy)

Question... Whats a good estimate on how much mpg you lose when installing an aftermarket intake? I'm not talking about when you rev it up so you can hear it, but driving normal, non-crazy-like. I used to get 400ish per tank and I'm @ about 150 on my current tank and its only 1/2 way. Should I reinstall or not worry about it much?
Thanks

Humm... I usually gets 400ish per tank with my AEM intake on 93 octate fuel.... Does this happen to you on every tank? Did you do a lot of idling and stop and go traffic?

I would say not to worry about it too much unless it's becoming a consistence problem with you.... Just keep an eye on it for the next few tanks.

Yea I was getting around 400, Altho I let the men in the family rev it a bit for awhile... maybe that killed gas. Also had a little fun after I put it in too but nothing that should be killing the gas as much as it is. If I have problems I guess I'll just reinstall it. *shrug*

I was looking into the AEM short intake also, how much hp does it add?

Practically no hp gains whatsoever. Well MAYBE 1-2hp. The only thing intakes do on our cars is better throttle response and a little more tourqe in the higher bands. And there is also the nice sound you get over 3500 rpms. If all you are looking for is hp gains then don't waste your money. Just but a $35 intake from ebay. You need to get an intake, header and exaust in order to see significant gains.
