Possibly Buying a MAZDA2 in July (Some Questions)

Hi there! So I am possibly buying a Mazda2 in July. I just have some questions to ask of you all if you don't mind. :)

Does the 2 have a timing chain or a belt?

How's the fuel economy? The 35 is slightly worrisome to me given that the Yaris, Sonic, 500, Accent, and Fiesta all are rated close to 40.

Is the 2 a rattle box? Went on a test drive and it seemed a little crashy...

And there's always the concern that the redesign is around the corner, and I'd hate to be stuck with the grin (don't hate it, don't love it) if I can get a 2 with a Kodo face...

Also, very interested in a potential CX-3!

Thanks, guys!!!!

Timing chain.

I've never gotten under 30mpg, and I've gotten as high as 43. My last tank was a mix of mostly non-spirited driving in the mountains and highway, with maybe 35 miles driving in town (to and from work today and yesterday) and I got 39 mpg when calculated at the pump.

Mine doesn't rattle at all.

If you test drove it and still aren't sure if you want it, this might not be the right car for you. I fell in love with this thing almost immediately after pulling it out of the lot on the test drive. I'm sure you can find a sub-compact that will get better mpg's or maybe even something that feels more solid over potholes and speedbumps, but I guarantee you won't find anything else in this class as fun to drive. Make sure to get one with a stick.

- The Mazda2's 1.5L engine has a timing chain

- When I'm driving my Mazda2 normally I usually average about 40mpg. But I also I have a Corksport Short Ram Intake and Corksport Cat-back exhaust w/ race-pipe that gives me a little more horsepower and MPG's. I get about 19mpg under hard racing conditions.

- My Mazda2 is incredibly solid.

- My final advice is to get a Mazda2 Touring with a manual transmission. The Mazda2 wins the fun-to-drive factor hands down. You will be pleased.
