hey guys, i bought a pionner avic z1 thinking that it would work with the mazdapseed 3, however i'm not so sure if there is a double din kit, that can make it work? does anyone know a way to make it work. I really like the avic z1 because its indash and also because it has bluethooth. let me know if anyone has any ideas

iirc there are no double DIN kits in production right now. The people that have installed them, or who have installed screens, have modified the single DIN kits that are available to fit the double size ones. So either practice your fabrication skills or find an audio shop that will do it for you.

Hey Buddy,

Here is a link to a Mazda3 Double Din install kit on ebay.

It is an expensive kit, however it does come with the metal hardware, screws, Dash plastic surround piece, wire harness, and a special little DOHICKY box that plugs into your STOCK LCD Info display.

I just ordered and recvd one from same company for my Mazda5, and it appears to be good quality, no junk. I have not installed yet, as I am waiting for my avic-d3 to arrive.

Good Luck, hope this gets you going in the right direction.

Keep Zoomin!

Thanks for setting me straight mazdadude. I'll have to keep that in mind for when people ask now. :)

The problem I see with this piece is it deletes the buttons that control the info center. (pissed)

Yes you are right. The REAL problem is that MAZDA made these buttons, and the info display built into the factory radio. This means that any removal of the factory audio unit, also removes the display. See uninstalled headunit pic for example.

With this install kit, it appears that you can remove the display unit from the factory audio head unit, and mount it back into the dash by itself with the little display control box that is included plugged in.

Think your correct. If I remember right I think I read that Mazda was at least nice enough to set it so that if you ditched the factory head unit the display could still be used as needed for the auto climate control.

NOTE: On closer inspection, thats not the same head unit as in the MS3. On my head unit the buttons are not part on the same piece. In other words it looks like the buttons CAN be seperated from the head unit. At least I know this to be the case on the MS3 GT with the BOSE head unit.
