possible problem

Ive had my cx7 for about 3 months now and have around 2500 miles, so far so good, decent gas mileage and all considering the turbo. But when I turn on the air it sounds like the ac compressor motor is cycling like every 10-15 seconds but I do not have the AC button pressed. Shouldnt it be just sucking air from outside and not make the AC compressor cycle? Thanks for the input.

If you have it in defroster mode (air blowing on windshield) it will cycle the a/c compressor on.

For sure its not on defroster mode, just on either floor or front vents and medium to hot on the temp control.

I believe the floor mode will also do it. I have seen some cars that will and some that won't. They run the air through the evaporator to suck the humidity out of it, thats why the a/c compressor has to kick on.

According to the book, defrost, defrost + feet or feet only will make the AC automatically come on EVEN IF THE LIGHT IS OFF. I think the ONLY mode that doesn't trigger the AC is front vents alone... but that's unclear.

I wouldn't worry about it. Apparently, a LOT of new cars are doing this as it helps keep the air inside the cabin dry so your windows don't fog up. I've been testing out gas mileage with all different vent positions, climate control settings and I've yet to see a noticeable difference. Matter of fact, I have the Automatic Climate Control which shows that AC as being on constantly, and I actually got better gas mileage with it set that way (go figure). The CX-7 has an "AC Economy" mode that it uses when the car doesn't need to be drastically cooled, so that probably helps.

HUH, thats a thought; one more thing to add to this is that I can for sure hear it cycling when Im sitting idle and parked but when Im driving I dont and I cant feel any hesitation like you do when the ac cycles on or off like it does on my other vehicles, know what I mean?

Yeah but if you could feel it, then it would be another "possible problem". Know what I mean? lol

its just how it works, it turns on fora few then off for like 10 seconds. I picked up on it the day i bought my 7. Odd but thats how it runs i guess
