Possible Melted Censor(?) - Help Please!!

Howdy!

On our 2002 Mazda Tribute V6 4X4 we have sensor/control, that looks like maybe it was replaced at one time, since the wires are cut and spliced *and not long enough to put back where it is supposed to be mounted ... just a guess, but looks like it to me ...

This "Object" looks like it has a place for it to mount on the back side of the engine on the left side (from the drivers seat), it fell down onto the EGR valves tube which gets very HOT, and melted it ... no engine codes come up, but the cruise control has stopped working ... :bang:

What is the "Mystery Object"???
 
I just searched out the part # out online, & apparently it is the ERG valve!! However, the melted part is something else, given further observance of the pictures: no obvious #'s to that!! I hope someone else can tell me what it is.
