Love the looks and features of the 2014 Mazda3. When asked about a diesel possibility, Mazda USA reps did not outright deny it, or say it couldn't happen. They basically said, "Let's see how well it sells in the 6." I don't know about you guys, but I'd 100 times rather buy a 3 with a diesel than a Golf TDI. I hope it happens, but thinking it realistically may not be until the 2015 model year. What do you guys think?

Maybe 2015, probably late availability if they're waiting to see how good sales are on the 6 before doing anything. With the Cruze diesel coming out though, the compact TDI market may get a little crowded. VW's bringing us the Golf GTD (basically a TDI GTI) also. So far I don't know if anyone else is jumping on the diesel bandwagon, though some Subaru fans are agitating for boxer diesels for the Impreza and XV Crosstrek.

As long as the '6 Diesel isn't a complete failure, they will probably sell it.

i-Eloop will also make it's way to the 2014 Mazda3 and should deliver class leading fuel economy with the gas engine already (probably around 45 mpg hwy with 2.0). If they put the diesel in it, it would easily be best in class.

The question isn't whether or not a skyactiv diesel will wind up in the new 3... we can be 100% sure that will happen, diesel Mazda 3's are old news in every other global market. The question is if that vehicle will then make it to North America, that's the total crapshoot.... probably would have to be after the CX-5 rollout, if that ever happens here.
