Wow, this thread is getting brutal...I love it. FIGHT FIGHT FIght fi.....oh screw it (upyours) . Let's just meet somewhere and have good time. Can't we all just, get along? (enguard)
Austin is a great city, but there are those of us who do not drink and might enjoy something other than bar hopping, perhaps a BBQ like some suggested on the beach I'm all for it. MP3Architect didn't you say you'd lead this thing or are you still planning on leaving the country? If you can't be here then I'll throw my hat in the ring to try and help coordinate this cat herding contest.

From what I'm reading it looks like it's going to be in January. To me that seems like an odd time for a statewide meet. I would think during the summer would be better, for the weather, for people to take the time off and it would allow more prep time. Four weeks to get this setup is not really sufficient. I think I read something about a National Mazda meet later next year as well. Maybe even April at Corpus Christi or Padre where the beaches don't stink or having rotting corpse type things washing up on shore. Would anyone else be interested in helping to coordinate this thing with me?

this is a cut & paste from an old post I wrote in 04 and in 05 a few times. This is why I would choose Austin, along with being a short drive away and would cost me quite a bit less than going anywhere else:

My friend has a ranch in LLanoTX. it's right by Austin in the heart of the hill country. I know all the back roads around there and all the big lakes etc. We could schedule a badass EXTREMELY scenic drives that will test every ounce of driving skills you have.

As a matter of fact, I know the back roads all the way from Fort Worth to there and dam its an awsome drive. No traffic, lots of scenery, hills, beautiful deep long curves, little historic towns dotted along the way. I could even ask if we could use my friend's camp ground. I could design different drives to like one to Enchanted Rock, one to Fredericksburg, one to the caverns, one to Faulkenstein Castle for group photoshoot (this is a real castle), A drive down devils back, which is a ******* crazy dangerous extremely twisty, narrow drive down a little mountain/very large hill, among many more.

below are some links for your review to educate you on ther various things to do in the hill country.

I lived there for 18 years. It stinks in so many ways.

Anyways, wasn't Austin decided before this thread started or something?

this thread was created to decide. but i think something like apocman suggested would be awesome. like..........forget about the city. what if we all went like camping or something in the woods so we can get out of the city and find some twisties.

sounds nice about what apoc said, but his ideas sound more of like a weeks planned out of a driving vacation.

the hill country tour needs to happen in the spring when things start to warm up and the flowers are in bloom. That's when i come out of hibernation.

apocman, you and i should compare driving notes/routes sometime.
