Polish, Wax etc.

Hey everybody! This may sound stupid, but since I'm pretty new to car care... What exactly does polish do?

I've noticed numerous small scratches around my car when I look at it in the sun. They aren't deep or down to the metal or anything, but are these the kinds of things that can be removed through polishing and waxing? I'd like to get my car all purty after winter, and would like to know the steps to take. I did wax it before winter started... Thanks!

Chris

There are no stupid questions only stupid answers!
polishes are made to remove small imperfections like you descibed. They contain light abrassive to remove the flaw.3m and Meguires both make excelent probucts,
after polishing use a high quality wax to further protect your finish, try to stay away from the so called polishing wax. Its better to use 1 product for 1 job. multipurpose product tend to lack one way or another.remember wax will ussually only last for 1-3 months tops .

Hey thanks chitownMP3. Hey, I was in Chicago a few weeks ago, and a blue MP3 pulled up to Lucciano's Cafe. Was that you? I was pretty drunk and gave the driver/passengers a couple of thumbs up... I think I invoked more fear than understanding though ;)...

That was some damn good info Chitown. Thanks, I truely appreciate it too. For those of you who would like to know a bit more info or read more indepth for your selves, checkout CarCareOnline.com. They talk about each product and what they pros and cons may be. I think my favorite product is Zymol. Next would be Meguires.

I'm always willing to help! Im a manager and former painter for a high end body shop.
If you like zymol try the stuff from griots its awsome but big$$ :)
