Pinging sound when gear engages

Hi folks,

The other day, I started to notice a click or ping sound when I engage a gear in the transmission. It doesn't happen every time, and it happens most from a stop, though I have heard it in the other gears (easiest to hear when not moving obviously). It doesn't seem to matter if I do a hard or soft engagement to get the noise, but lower RPMs seem to enhance it a bit. It's a weird clicking sound, with a metallic twang to it, and it happens just as the gear engages and the car starts to move.

I've looked but I can't see anything that might be hanging down and swinging, and then hitting metal to make the sound. It sounds pretty clear, but I can't tell if it's at a wheel or under the car in the transmission. It's not from the back end. No bangs, curb jumpings or anything like that have happened, it just started doing it. I'm running Redline MT-90, changed about 7 months ago, no oil under the car. No mods.

So, I'm at a loss. I'm wondering if something is loose on a mount or something, but then I'd expect it to bang harder on harder shifts. For whatever reason, my car shifts smoother the higher the RPMs and the faster I shift it, and the sound seems to happen more with slower/softer shifts. Never heard a noise like it before, so I'm puzzled. Thanks for the help!

Hmmm, today the car made the same sound when I let off the gas, as well as when getting going. It's more of a clicking than a ping, and I'm still in the dark as to what it might be...
