Clay bar is s must every so often. It really brings life back to the paint. Lookin' sharp!

It really does...it helps with the shine but it really is the quickest and most affordable way to ensure the integrity of the finish. I couldn't believe all the dirt, pollutants and random crap I pulled off onto the claybar. The paint goes from sand-paper to glass and the kits are very user firendly for those who are new to it.

Now you need to be sure to finish it with a sealant and a wax. Then you won't need to clay as often.

i have never even heard of claybar until a couple weeks ago. what exactly does it do?

+1 I have claybar in my garage but afraid to use it. The only time that I used it was on a previous car that I had to remove overspray clear coat after a paint job. I heard that's what people use and it works. So I guess that every time you use it you might be rubbing some clear coat off a bit. Might not be a big deal but i'll pass. Car looks really good though. Nice job

hugador,

The clay is non-abrasive and will not damage the car. Meguiars sells a kit with the two bars, quick detailer, a nice microfiber towel and cleaner wax. All you do is spray the bar and area with quick detailer, rub, and it removes all dirst, pollutants, over spray and other nastiness from on-top of your clear coat. $20 at autozone...99.99% of all cars on the road have a finish that feels like sandpaper; do this and that's gone...smooth as glass. Just try it and you'll be a believer!

Claybar is really a beginning step in detailing your car, it removes all the dirt/grime/impurities from your paint which leaves the perfect canvas for your favorite wax/sealant.

By no means should it be the final step in your detail, It really does make your paint feel like glass.

I got the meguairs clay kit hoping it would get rid of the water marks on my roof, but didnt work. Worked very nicely and car still looks great, but as far the water marks am I screwed?

Sally,

If you're referring to the water spots left on the car after washing it...a little elbow grease with spray wax or cleaner wax gets rid of that.

Sally:

Sounds like you need a light scratch remover like Zaino's Z-5. I used this on my wife's CX-7 that had light surface scratch and it took them out with ease.

I'd look into getting some scratch remover for your issue.

I was a skeptic.

I though claybar was a snake oil until I tried it. It's one of those products that sounds like snake oil but the proof is in the results. Once you try it you'll never feel like the car is truly clean without it.

i was going to do it again, but ran my hand across the car, and still smooth from last years clay bar. so just wash and another coat of wax for me today.

Trust me, I've done everything to get rid of those marks; Waxing, rubbing, 409 cleaner lol. They're not water marks from washing because after I wash my car I immediately dry it off with microfiber cloths. I think they're from when I didn't wax my car for a few months and we had some rain. But I will definitely try using some scratch remover and see if that works, I have meguairs, seems to work good on regular scratches, maybe it help with this as well.

I hope that's not "acid rain" or chemical etching on the clear coat. I'm not trying to make you worry any more than you already are, just trying out other avenues. I'm just kinda paranoid when crap is on my car...even seagull deposits. I carry a bit of spray cleaner in the trunk, just for emergencies lol. :)
