pics of my little accident...

hey hey hey...who said I was driving like a maniac?

cars don't spin out by them self. Especially a protege. Only way to spin out a fwd car is that you went too hot in to a corner, you panicked and slammed on the brakes. Effectly lifting the weight off the rear and losing traction. No amount of tires would have helped that.

actually, I didn't touch the brakes until I felt my front tires lose their grip, which shouldn't have happened in the first place because I take that route to work every day, and it's never slipped before...

understeer, panic, brake, over correct, oversteer, spin, sign. its not the understeer that made the car spin, it caused the reaction that led to the spin. i had the car understeer almost into a curb going 20mph in a maybe 20 degree turn. did you never have the dunlops?

the stock dunlops suck no matter what. you can easily peel out in the lightest bit of rain at a red light if you give it slightly more gas than needed. ask anybody who has ever driven these on water they suck SO BADLY. i still use dunlops ultra high performance d9'somethings-lol. i forgot already but they are SOOOOO much freaking better 10k miles and going strong, snow and ice will **** me though.

with springs, struts and a mp3 rear sway, the stocks are fun as hell. they're really not too bad of a tire. try kumho mx's next. i've explored the limits of my car with those babys

yeah...after i pick up some winter tires next month, i'm going to be looking into getting some nice summer tires this coming spring. ones that will be able handle water...like tires should. might not be a bad idea for yourself. any suggestions anyone?

Saw the pics, and the first thing I looked for before any other damage, was to see if you had the Dunflops still. Living in FL, we get tons of rain in short periods of time. I got rid of the Dunflops after 8K miles, sucked to spend so much right after buying the damn car.

As far as tire recommendations, there are eleventy bajillion threads. I originally swapped to Yokohama AVS ES 100's. They parted water like moses, and the car drove like a slot car in wet and dry weather. 20K miles later, they were bald. I got Kumho Ecsta 711s when I got wheels, and they are pretty damn good in rain. Not as sticky to the road, but I did notice they are a lot quieter.

Now might be the time to get a wheel and tire package. I got my wheels from wheelmax, during a 7% off sale, and they were less than $800 shipped.

Sucks about the wreck, looks like the fogs barely survived.

I run Fusion zr1's. They feel pretty good in wet weather and they aren't expensive. Sorry to see a wrecked white P5! Hope you get it back together soon.

It's never the driver's fault in the least. No offence, I wasn't there so I don't know, I just think it's funny that almost every story (except for maybe rougeP5's) goes "the car just broke loose! I don't know what happened!"

(dark) hehe jk

I know what you mean though - nobody likes to admit fault. I'll admit I was going 35 when the speed limit was 30, but I've taken that curve tons of times in the past month (to and from work everyday), and any set of good tires shouldn't have slipped out from underneath me like that IMHO

I'm glad to hear you and your car are ok. I hate the stock tire, it spins like s*** everywhere, especially in wet road... I feel like skiing in rain... I want upgrade, but no money for new shoes... (shrug)

I dont care who you are or where you come from or how much you think you know about "racing" those stock dunlops are only good if you are an excessively old person who doesnt even go half of the speed limit. Both of my parents drove my P5 when I had the stock tires on there and they were screaming about how bad they were. Even my mother was able to burn out at a stop light. Keep in mind this is an automatic so it's not like she jumped the clutch or anything.

After I lowered the car I got a little better performance out of them but there was still the contant problem of the front tires never having any grip. So after about 4k miles of the stock tires I said **** it and I got some Falken Ziex ZE512 tires. Never again have I had a problem. Even after I wore the Falken's down to flat tread they still gripped better than brand new, warmed up stock tires.

I was driving on the highway one night with the stock tires on in a terrible storm. Now keep in mind I was in the far right lane going maybe 25 in a 55 because the rain was sooo thick I couldnt go any faster than that safely. I was still getting blown past by semis though....yeah other drivers cause semis to wreckk.....hmmm another rant for another thread....anyways I was going 25 and my car was still floating. Even when I slowed down the car would still slide all over the water.

It's not a matter of who was driving or how fast or how slow. It's a mere fact that the stock Dunlops are not rated for all weather use. Hot, dry day....they work fine. But if it gets a little wet or a little cold, they just go to s***.

Tires make all the difference in the world. Why would they costs different prices and have so many different brands if they were all the same thing? Why would some be performance rated, why would some be all weather rated? Exactly...it's not because different drivers want different things, better tires do better things. Plain and simple.

As for you WhiteSeattle. It's nice to see you and the car made it out ok. Couple bruises on the car but she will heal. One thing is for sure....you better go back and steal that ******* street sign!!!! Haha. Little momento for your spill.

Oh and a little side note. I paid 62$ a tire for the Falken tires. Stock Dunlop tires are about 160$ a tire where I live.....so for 100$ LESS a tire i got about 500% MORE performance.

Go to a wet parking lot one night when no one is there and rip the s*** out of your parking brake....stock Dunlops are gone in an instant....Falkens on the other hand....I had a really hard time getting them to break free for more than 90 degrees. The Dunlops are fun as s*** though in an empty parking lot. I probably went around 720 degrees before my car finally slid to a stop....you get damn dizzy though! haha.

as of now, all mazda Stock tires suck, especially the Continentals in my tribute, one has bumps, i have replace 2 of them with cheap but better ones than those...

how about the late model ones?, i don't know if the protege/3/6/RX-8/MPV are good, the only thing i know that the Continental Contitrac SUV found in the Tribute suck...
