Pic Request:P HKS SSQV in MS3

Cel is off now after about 5 mins of driving.......Also I feel like I have to time it just right to gun it for it to not bog up......I talked to my buddy that has a pretty boosted A4 and he said that its probably my filter....Its the inverted powerstack style, which also has the whole in the center of the filter, he said that the powerstack actually passes the MAS in a way where it causes it to bog up.. He said the only way its good for a turbo car is if it has a completee u turn in the intake piping......Otherwise it makes the MAS error up?... Anyone else hear of this?

On another note I raced a 350z with a aem CAI tonite from 35 to 110ish.....we were neck and neck pulling back and forth the whole way it was sweet, He was slightly pulling on me at the end when my car was bogging because of the intake, but never left my bumpers either way!!!!!!!!! He asked at the next red light what I had in it......I told him what it is and he didnt even know what I was talking about lol, fun stuff.......

i tried changing the filter on the car and i was idling and it was shaking a little bit, soudns basdass but i dont want to run my car ****** up, was jstu curious if u guys knew . maybe i am leaking air somewhere or something, here are these pics. i had to make a custom thing for the sensor between the filter and stock piping.

i put the stock air box in because i was scared of messing up the engine , i must add this is my first tuner car ever. so im new to everything. maybe you guys know of a filter kit with pipes that works nice and has spot for sensor and all the goods that i can buy.

k&n

hey i dont currently have a ms3 and i have gotten to look under the hood really but all u have done is taken the stock air box out and put the filter by the MAF right? im just thinkin ab gettin one soon and that will be one of the few mods... thanks

will the msp mass air flow sensor be plug and play with the ms3? thats the same kind of maf the protege 1.6 have and i had one of those and they were a pain in the ass to work with. i tried custom making an intake didn't work good and then when i ordered a injen cai i chopped it a bit to make it a short air and at certain points it would get sluggish. i beleive that its just that maf that the ms3 has is a pain in the ass to work with. so i was wondering if the msp maf would work cuz i got a spare and my ms3 don't come in until late feb early march cuz i want the cosmic blue so i gotta wait and since i can't mess with it now maybe someone can check it out for me

Hey you never know, do they look the same? Since they are different engines Im not sure if it would read properly or plug and play for that matter. But if anyone could swap them and see, then why not.

Update on my intake, I swapped out the 4in powerstack, took off the reducer and put in a regular k&n 3in cone. It drives different, but by no means better. Instead of bogging in low rpms, it would just bog at constant speeds, even with cruise control on. That gets very annoying so I took it off, Im just going to go for the CP-E CAI. And my lady got me a HKS BOV for christmas, so I have to order the flange and put it in!!!!!!!!

You need this adapter, only one i have seen for SRI that should work.

Putting the MAS on a pipe is gonna cause issues unless you were just lucky enough to find one with exactly the same size and flow characteristics as the stock pipe. The stock ECU measures the voltaged off the MAs based on the speed at which air passes through/around it. If the pipe is bigger than stock less air will flow at the same engine speed therefore tricking the ECU into thinking less air is coming is and injecting less fuel. Lean/BAD. Oppisite is the pipe is smaller than stock. By modifying the size and flow you could potentialy change lean/richen the mixture across the entire rpm band. Example would be on DSM's one could remove the honeycomes withen the MAS and there for let more airflow through without the ECU see it, leaning the mixture. Delaying fuel cut also. I would not mess with it much without a wideband O2 and do it small increments checking reading after modifications. One could take material out of the pipe on the inside to the same effent. A port job. Chances are you homemade set up is so far off the factory Mas size it is running like crap/which it is. Could be way lean. The car still has a O2 so it is able to compensate somewhat to fix the change. Likely the reason the car still runs. Mostly only effective in idle and low throttle cruising. Most ECU's go into open loop mode during WOT and dont use factory O2 reading anyway. I think. I'd pay 150 the RnD'ed mass pipe and be done with it but my modded airbox and KnN drop in is working so nice. Plus what is left of the factory airbox acts as a heat shield for the intake.

I have since cut out even more from the box from these pictures. No water, No cels, perfect idle and drivabilty. SRI sound and still get relatively cool air. I would say this mod is good for 10-20hp from the seat of the pants and there is little drop in power at 5500 it goes to 6000k. Then the ecu's limits throttle to 80% so its gonna drop off regardless of the boltons without ecu tuning.

CPE has a CAI with impressive dyno results, They say no cel codes. The speed6 one is out and the speed 3 is almost ready for production. I think the dyno results were around 20hp and 20TQ over stock. The one for the speed 3 is supposed to be a little more improved then the speed 6

Yeh thats what Im going to get, it does put up some really good numbers for just an intake, but I was getting impatient so I figured Id try the sri method. And the speed3s is better than the 6s because the ms6 has 2 air openings on the airbox, the ms3 only has 1, so replacing it will give a better gain because its more restricted to begin with.

LMAO!! #uck that $12 for shipping???? Ill pay the $90+ for a dinky piece of aluminum, but $12 for shipping is rediculous!!!!!!! lol Im just kidding, WHY IS THAT thing 90 some bucks??? I figured $50 tops, And they just put that on in the past couple days, I check their site weekly...... And did you write the description above about the MAS, it sounded like you pulled it out of your a$$ lol, not in a harsh way, but you usually dont write like that. But it does make sense, The intercooled pipe I bought was a hair bigger than the stock pipe, Also that did work great on my old dsm and the honeycomb, I dont know why mitsu even put that in there? That was probably chryslers doings lol..... Theres no way Ill be gutting the stock box though.... The CP-E CAI will be just fine, Thanks for the info man!

Just out of curiosity. I used to have a RamAir on my SiR and I now have a Mazda 3. I was going to buy the K&N Complete Cold Air that goes from Ram Air to cold Air. How bad is it to have a ram air installed on your car. I mean I love the sound and I know you get a little bit of HP but I like the fact that I can avoid Hydro Lock. Anyways what is the effect it will have on my car. Will it mess me up in any ways even though Im considering boosting it next year.

Short Ram Intake is just gonna be pulling in hot air from the engine bay rather than cooler/colder air with a CAI. The gains won't be the same but, you'll still have the same sound.. possibly even louder.

for those of you with a BOV (athmosphere), do you guys also experience the turkey that the msp owners experience?

I'm not sure how many people are actually running the MS3 with a BOV VTA. But when I get mine in I may for a day just to hear it like that then run it right and I'll let you know if someone else hasn't chimed in a response by then.

I have SSQV VTA, no turkey sound, and People that tell you to recirc don't know what they are talking about. If you want one do it, It's your choice either way. The stock unit doesn't handle high pressure(PSI). If you look at the cheap piece of crap you'll see why. The car naturally runs rich because Mazda planned on people tuning them.

good luck and have fun
