The whole "Mazdaspeed package" will set you back something like 5k (Intake, cbe, light weight wheels, coil-over suspension, springs) That's not exactly fast on the cheap in my book. Plus to have it warranted it needs to be installed by the dealer and they aren't exactly installing it on the cheap either...

And at the end you have a car that is barely faster than stock. No thanks!

StewRat, I see where you are coming from, but I also see why there is so much excitement about the AP.

Our motors will be much, much more reliable with the proper conservative tuning for our mods. I do not feel comfortable with just adding a MBC without any programming. Same goes for TBE. Proper tuning is critical for engine life, as Im sure you know. Later down the road, the AP can be used for a Protune as well, should someone want their own customized tune, which will yeild even further gains. The 16hp gained from a Cobb SRI will only yeild more power with further tuning.

OBD-II connection. Plug in, wait a few minutes, remove, and youre done. No piggy back wiring or hacking the stock harness. The AP makes it way too easy to have fun. Im nt sure how familiar you are with the AP, but it reads a lot of realtime data as well.

Im excited to see how things go for a while with the AP before I decide to buy one.

Don't forget that Cobb tested the SRI on a "mustang dyno" at high elevation.
16whp / 11wtq - to the wheels.

I suppose. expensive yep, but the package was track proven on stock pads and a bit more tire for the wider wheel. There were a couple good articles on the package, Edmunds Inside Line if i remember. The car is not that far away from a road course car. But all we hear about is the 1/4. not that there is anything wrong with that. So this might be a track proven fully tested unit that you can feel secure with. I look forward to the results also!

The "Mazdaspeed" way isn't a bad way to go I just think it's a bit too much $$$ for what you get. I'm pretty certain you can go aftermarket and achieve greater results with less $$$.

No argument here. I wonder if the engine tuning might work the same way?
