Mazda RX-8
I don't know too much about cars. I have a 2008 RX-8 40th Anniversary Edition. What I'm looking for is ideas for incresaing low RPM torque. I'm not looking to spend more than $2000. Anyone have any suggestions.

You can put an intake and exhaust(Mazda Speed is the only one that will not void the warranty for sure) on and it will hardly do anything on the low end and will give you 10-15hp on the high end 6-9K area. It will give you more noise. The rotary is not a V8 it does not have torque on low end. Supercharger would give you more on low end and turbo more on high end (little on low end)but both would be much more $$. Mazda tuned the rotary about as good as possible for reliability. If you want big performance you will need much better engine cooling too. The engine tuning is complex and will have to be done by a rotary specialest. Keep it tuned and enjoy til the 16X comes out.

You get the RPM to make the oomph for the car over torque. Makes driving Rx8s fun!

Get a HKS twin power ignition amplifier.

Combined with a engine grounding kit, this gave me a noticable gain in low end torque for $600 spent.

Plus, get a Knightsports ECU upgrade. By re-mapping your ECU program, you can get better mid-range.

Knightsports in Japan will deal in English.

I have their 4-BEAT program in mine & it was a worthy upgrade. Cost = $1000

I heard changing out the chip often causes problems? Have you had any problems with it?

No problems here............(shrug)

Its not a case of getting "Chipped" anymore like the older 8-bit or 16-bit systems. This 32-bit ECU is simply reprogrammed via a laptop.

For my RX-8 I simply told them the type of car I had (03-model 4AT) & all good.

Even got a boost in fuel economy to boot.

Check out the accessport, and I think suspension and weight savings is the way to go. Everyone who buys an rx-8 should know wat they are getting into. Im not sure which corksport guy said it, but he is exactly rite! U gotta rev these babies up.
