Performance best compared to...

So that is the question what is the performance of the 3 compared to? How is teh performance of the 2.3 compared to the 2.0. Is it worth the extra to get the 2.3. Has avyone actually broke in their 3 and tried to race anyone just to see how you would do? What is it comparable to?

I raced a Toyota S a few days ago. I don't know if the guy thought the S stood for speed on the toyota or what. It was automatic with 14" rims and hubcaps. Needles to say it was sad to see how slow the Toyota is stock. I beat it out by like 8 or 9 car lengths in about a quarter mile stretch of desolate rode. I wish it had been a better car then I could guage the performance better, but the Mazda didn't even have to break a sweat to destroy the new toyota.

I would think the newer Civic Si would be a good race, they are rated 160hp too' otherwise...hmm..not sure??
 
Mazda 3 is considered G-stock.
That puts it in range with the some of the older Celicas, the Impreza 2.5RS, and a few others.
 
in reading a few articles, the main point made when comparing the 3 to the 3s is that the 3s is a bit smoother overall. the optional engine really doesn't make the car THAT much quicker. where you notice the difference in the powerplants is in the area of perceived refinement. the larger displacement engine in the 3s doesn't have to work quite as hard to do the same amount of work as the smaller mill does.
 
By seat of the pants, my 2.3 hatch feels about as quick as a first generation Impreza 2.5RS.

I used to have a 1998 v6 camaro with 220 horses after mods before the crank. It was a heavy car and was pretty quick. Well I traded it in for a mazda 3s and I noticed that the mazda was actually quicker off the line and the 0-60 was also 1.6 seconds quicker than my camaro. The car drives so smooth you dont even know how fast your driving. You hit 80 so quick and dont even realize it. Anyways I raced a few cars a couple of days after i got it and these were the results. I raced a 2004 V6 tiburon 6 speed and beat him. The guy couldnt shift worth crap and he had these guages in his car to tell him when to shift. I raced a 3000gt sl off the line and stood with him all the way side by side and then he just let off the gas. That wasnt really a win since we were about even the whole time. I raced a Gt mustang from a roll while he was just taking off and we stood together. If Him and I raced from a dead stop he would of killed me. Well those are my results.

Civic si, yeah i could stand to see that. The nex Si's suck though, and all Si's have always sucked until they were modded. They're designed for the aftermarket. They have that tradition, so it's really not worth bragging about.

mazda3hatch, the tiburon I can sorta believe, the 3000 I can sorta believe as long as it wasnt the turbo, and the GT is pure bulls***. You might be telling the truth about what happeneed, but I guarentee his foot wasnt to the floor.

Yac2727, what the **** is a toyota S? Um??????? A corolla S? All the corolla S is is the corolla with ground effects and a couple nifty stickers. Despite that, if you were really racing, you would've had to push it a little to beat him. Maybe not all the way to edge him out, but you woud've had to push it. You know it doesnt count if you're sitting at a stoplight and you just start going, right? That's not a race. The other guy has to know you're going too.

And a v-6 camaro? Duh. I've beaten v-6 camaro's in my land cruiser and my old neon. They're slow as balls.
 
Hot damn. You scalded me there. I apoligize. I could swear I saw 200 horses on that car somewhere and AWD. Is there another lancer coming out or already out in europe/japan with these stats? (not the evo) I coulda sworn.....
