so im planning to paint my emblems red and was curious on the process this is my first project car so sorry if i come off dumb. i haerd somewhere i should soak the badges in bleach for a bit till they show there blue color or they'll just chip alot and show tehre chrome is this true? after that i assume i put some primer on how many coats? and how do i apply "coats" just spray it all over a couple times or spray it let it dry then spray it again? then finally with the paint same question just apply all the coats at once or apply a coat let it dry apply a coat let it dry? and how many coats thanks for your help. second on my wheels. im going to paint the wheels themselves black then the center cap red then the mazda emblem in the cap black.. how many coats and like the question above them how do i apply it thanks for your input guys sorry im dumb

All I did was to remove the badges, degrease, sand them a bit, degrease again, dry, and paint. I used semi-gloss black engine enamel spray paint. I did a very fine coat and a light coat. After a few months it is still holding up just fine, but I should have done more coats for more even coverage. That's it, go nuts!!!

Soaking them in bleach for a couple days takes the chroming off. then you can primer them and paint. They will be stellar forever with that process... Whatever you have time/patience for.

im planning to paint them red will that present any problems or no?

and what did the degreaser do is like like the use of primer just help it stick?

i believe nail polish remover works as well, all u have to do is rub them for awhile, i did that with my old suby badges.

-as for the rims, the coats really depend on how well the paint applies to them. I spent a good 6 hours lightly sanding the rims and it took two coats and they look perfect. for the center caps the little chrome mazda emblem i just painted right over it and they look perfect as well and not even a single scratch. just make sure u take the time.
