I bought some red touch up paint and was wanting to paint the engraving for the gears in red on my new shift knob. Does anyone know the best way to go about this without me messing up my brand new knob? Thanks in advance!!

one guy on the other forums he used like red airplane model paint and just dabbed some on the engraving and then wiped it off real quick with a wet cloth...which left the engravings red looks nice and clean...that's the E4 shift knob right

if u r looking for that particular thread it's under the how to section on m-s-f-.-o-r-g...take out the minuses and you should be able to figure out the site...his username is bioevolve

I thought about doing this to the 6-speed engraving on my TWM knob, but in black. I have a pretty steady hand, thought about taking a fine brush and going very slowly.

Mix the paint with a little thinner to make it a little runny. Then paint it on, let it fill the cracks, then wipe it off. Since there is thinner, it should come right off but stay in the cracks and eventually dry...Good luck!

+1. this is how i used to do the fine details on engines on my old model cars/planes. it'll work no problem.

depending on the material (metal) you could maybe heat it up with a flame or heat gun and melt some crayon into it, then wipe it. that's what some guys do to their gun's engravings.

Here's what I would try...

Put blue painters tape over the whole thing. Use a pen or exacto knife to carefully cut into the notches. Apply the paint and the tape should keep it inside the notched areas.

Go to a hobby or a craft store and buy a fine paint pen in the color you need and fill in the engraving.
