Paint Chipping (on side of car)

Does anyone else have any issue with (very) small paint chips in random locations around the vehicle? I have a 2008 CX-9 and over the past year I've found several small chips in the paint. The chip is completely through the paint (bare metal beneath). The thing is, these are located on the SIDE of the car. I have none on the front hood/bumper where I would expect to have small impacts from road debris. There is no denting or signs of impact around the small chips of missing paint. They are not in a location where a "door ding" would be possible (too high). It's almost as if someone shot at my car from the side with a small BB gun. Is anyone else aware of this issue and/or have any recommended fixes? Has anyone spoken with a dealer about it?

Thx

did u drive recently off road (sand or rock) ??
I've seen what you're describing on cars that went off roading and got tiny hits by rocks and stuff on the sides, usually on the fenders after the tires,

I have a very nice chip on the rear driver side quarter panel that's down to the metal, and it's not dented. It was from a rock that flew over a median and hit my car. The rear quarter panel kind of does kind of stick out a little bit, which would make it more susceptible to collecting rocks...

Just downed on me...did you drive through a sand storm or perhaps windy area where tiny rocks/pebbles might have been carried by the cross wind and hit the side of your CX-9?

YES!! I have this issue too. Random small chips that are DEEP. Sometimes to the bare metal. I try to fill them in as quick as possible with touchup paint to prevent rust and hit it hard with good qual wax. Some on the RH rear upper panel near the window, some on the hood, etc. Not bad, but some in odd places. I just think its soft paint........

Have not mentioned to dealer yet.

I have several small chips on both sides of my CX-9 that are easy to see since it's black. I know they are caused by flying rocks.

Speaking of that chip I mentioned. It's now rusted because i was too lazy to get paint for it. Any ideas on an easy, lazy man's way to repaint it? Are there any rust inhibitors I can just slap on there and then put the touch up paint over it?

Try Dr.ColorChip, I just tried it on my white BMW 128i, it works great. My wife has a Brilliant Black Mazda CX-7 that I will touch up with that before we turn it in (lease is up), will be useful on our new also Brilliant Black CX-9

Paint chips on the entire front end

I have a 08 bought in the in Sept. of 07 CX-9 with a little under 51,000 mi. i guess you could say that is considered a little high as far as miles are concern when the average driver mileage is some where around 15,000 annually,{mine 17,000}. I would say the the 65% of the miles are highway but my entire front end looks like crap, i have so many many paint flaws or chips all the way up the entire hood that it makes me sick and i find it hard to believe that these flaws are entirely from highway driving. I also recently took it to the dealer to ask these same questions about theses flaws and could it be something like a suspect clear coat or maybe the paint is just as someone else mention maybe its just soft paint. So i am looking to have to paint the entire front end which is called a nose job in the paint world. The assistant paint manager took some pictures and sent me back over the service Dept. to see if there was a chance of getting some help from the service Dept. as far as warranty maybe or even just maybe helping out a little with the cost basically throwing me a small bone. The District or Regional manager said NO way Jose we don't pay for road debris chips. I wish i had some pictures ready to post but i don't you can see how bad this thing looks. Is there anyone out there with kind of mileage that is seeing the front bumper + hood and fenders looking like they have been in a sand storm. I have another vehicle with more miles then that and we drive it to from the same places and it doesn't even come close to having near the paint flaws as my Mazda and its an 01. I am also going to make a new post about my ABS & TCS light coming on and staying on in a different forum you want to read this as well because the dealership isn't going to throw me a bone on that as well and it going to cost me $1340.00 out of my pocket on a ABS control unit that by know means should have completely failed after 3.5 yrs and 51,000 mi.

I love most things about the CX9 but the paint job isn't one of them. It chips and scratches easily. I wonder if the white paint (which costs a bit more) is better.
