P5 vs. MSP

I was just wondering if you guys feel that the MSP is worth the ~4-5K price premium over the P5. It seems like now might be a good time to try to make a good deal on either of these fine automobiles, with the new 3 hitting the showrooms in about a month.

p5 + 5k of turbo setup = F U MSP

Friend w/ Spool stage 2 - $5000 in tuning - 235whp @12psi
Dealer I know - MSP - $3000 upgrades - 261whp @15psi

Same guy that got 261whp is helping me + this guy has been running like this all summer long, no problems whatsoever. Let's just put it this way this guy knows his sh*t

So be fair and give the P5 another $3k to play with if you're going to give the MSP $3k.

sorry pals, but I royally toast every Mazdaspeed Protege I know - and there are definetely faster Protege5s and Mazda MP3s out there. I hope Mr. Dealer put a REAL intercooler on that car or he'll have a wonderously heat soaked charge going into his engine.
 
buy the MSP from a dealer in Texas. They're only charging $15.9K for a 2003 MSP and $16.4 for an 03.5. Why buy a P5 if you can get the super sweet MSP for the same price?
 
I agree, if you've got the money, get the 5 and go FI.
The interior is so much better. I still don't think you can get a sunroof on your MSP ?

Not to mention there is probably a significant enough difference between the two in insurance costs.
 
Oh I totally agree with you turbo matty but they are the same engine so why the hell would you say the p5 can smoke the msp with mods, it could just go back and forth, it all depends on who you leave the tuning to, in my case someone who is damn good.
He tuned my friends p5. Actually if you go to spools website my friends p5 is sponsered by spool up here in canada, it is the silver p5 with the wings west kit on.
 
Actually the interiors are pretty much the same, you guys are treating this as a completly different car. I owned a p5 before this and my insurance is cheaper than my p5 was so I guess I'm happy:D I like both cars I don't understand the reason p5 owners and msp owners are always a eachothers necks, I have alot of friends in the toprotegeclub that drive p5's and msps/mp3's and don't really care who has what they just love the protege plain and simple if someone is getting faster they praise them instead of "msp's suck no matter how fast they get"
Or p5's will always be slow, in my opinion no protege is better than the other so why fight over it.
 
I never said the P5 would be faster than the MSP, the P5 weighs an ass-load more and will make similar power. I would personally buy a $15K MSP and mod the holy s*** out of it....oh wait..that's what I'm doing!
 
they are all awesome. i think my 5 is a lo tmore cofortable though. just not as fast..........yet
 
whoa, I wanna see those weight numbers from mazda. I'm going to go pull it off their website. I can't imagine the P5 not weighing at least 300lbs over the MSP
 
what the hell??!!! The P5 is 100lbs less than the MSP??!! How in the hell is that possible? Turbo+stereo=100lbs??? The most I've ever seen a turbo system increase weight is about 60lbs. Anyone have any ideas where the extra weight comes from or why the P5 is lighter?
 
shorter?? it's the same chasis! how is it shorter? Also, the sub is more than acceptable for me. However, I'm not a stupid ghetto-cruiser who thinks that the louder my bass is the bigger my penis is. My sound system has nothing to prove to anyone but me, the guy making the payments. Besides, If I could've ordered the car without the system I would've. Thats one of the reasons I didn't get the focus SVT was ever dealer ordered the stupid stereo junk.
