P5 Stereo Questions...

Hey guys...

I'm interested in replacing my stock head unit. I'm looking for a CD/mp3 player and I would prefer a double DIN unit because I don't want to end up with that crappy looking cubby hole above/below the head unit that you get with single DIN install kits. Will pretty much any double DIN stereo fit into my 03 p5? I was looking at crutchfield.com and it was saying that several of the double DIN units that they offer wouldn't fit. Are any of you guys out there using a double DIN unit, and if so what is it, and how do you like it?

Im not too sure how large the market is for a double din, which is why you are having trouble finding one that would fit. There are some nice pockets out there but they are $$.

Pioneer 860 was good to me, just had issues w\ the cd not fully ejecting
Kenwood XXV-01d is pretty cool I have that now
Alpine 9835 if you can find one for a decent price is real nice (from browsing car audio forums)

Check out caraudio.com, sounddomain.com and see if they have any suggestions for a double din.

I put the Kenwood 919 (from the MSP) in my car.. with the pocket. I really like it! The pocket has a door so you can close it and hide stuff. If you look around on the boards you can usually find a nice one for pretty cheap.

This is my radio (stock MP3 Kenwood h/u) and the msp pocket....I don't think it looks bad. In fact, I love it.

get a single din and put in a gauge pod there. I have a Volt, Oil Pressure, and a Temp.

I was thinking the same thing. Perfect place for one. But the CD player has to have a frame behind it in order to keep it sturdy and such. To my knowledge, they don't make a frame to hold a double din.

you should be able to fit a double din in there. but a single with a pockets is what most people do

Yeah, I was looking at that one too. It looks like it would match the rest of the dash really well.

the one i might get, but ofcourse if i do get it then i will tell the audio shop to do custom molding to make it fit flush. But it should still fit if you dont want it molded.

I also love this piece.. When I first got the P5 I was aiming towards that, but than the warranty keeps coming back to bite me... Sooo.. I am still stock!

Anything with a tape player should be illegal. When we bought our '05 CR-V I couldn't believe it came with a damn tape deck. WTF?

by the way guys, make sure you browse through that site, they have a lot of good stuff and just about any brand out, for a lot cheaper than retail. I havent ordered anything yet so i cant vouch for quality or even dependability, but it seems ok from the site.
