P5 Newcomer in need of direction.

Hello all. I picked up my p5 about a month or so ago to be my very first car. It's fully loaded, leather and all that, and brought about a really great feeling as I've been driving it. The one downside I saw when buying it was that it was already driven 204000KM. I paid 6300 Canadian for it, got a brand new set of tires in the deal and overall the car is in good condition inside and out. As of yesterday I hit my first problem as the check engine light came on and now I have to take it back and have them fix it for me (hooray for a 6 month warantee). As of right now I feel some regret, thinking that maybe I made a bad decision and can no longer turn back on it. I'm at a crossroad where I can't decide if I'm being an idiot and blowing up something huge and drawing massive conclusions or if I should perhaps try to resell the car and get something different instead. Any input on that topic would be appreciated.

Having driven it for a month I can say it's a good car, being manual makes it that much more enjoyable. Now I find myself getting into the whole car-customization scene and am wondering what the possibilities this car has and so I've turned here for some answers. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions as to which direction I should head in that would be much appreciated as well.

Overall I suppose I'm feeling a little unsure about what is ahead of me in the future.

Thanks in advance.

I am just wondering, did you research the type of car before buying it? As many have said, you will soon come to see a love/hate relationship with it. This is not a car you will be making high HP if that is what you were expecting. Its more of a drivers car and handles great. Thats why I bought my MSP except I am going forged internals for reliability.

To be completely honest I probably didn't do as much research as I should have. I have been doing more of it after buying it but that doesn't really help in a decision that's already been made lol.

I don't really care for going fast all that much, but I wouldn't mind doing some minor things to increase it's performance. As much fun as having a fast car is the speeding laws here are ridiculous and I wouldn't even want to be tempted to speed to show off or because my car is built to. I'd probably say I'm more into the cosmetic appearance.

Well as far as HP goes, you would have to really build up the engine. But its is a very fun car. Handles great but can always be made better. Get everything squared away with the motor and maintenance and then tackle the appearance. There are many members here that are very creative and also make custom parts for our cars. Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the Forums! Congrats on getting a Pro5. Doing basic mods such as intake headers, exhaust, supension/wheels is good first. Making it look good is what i did first. I want more reliability out of my Pro5 first and maybe later down the line you can crazy with a turbo set up for more power and fun. To me the Protege5/Protege has nice bodylines and you dont see it with the newer Mazdas anymore. well hopefully you make up your mind.

Thanks for all the replies and comments guys. Car goes in either tomorrow or Thursday, I'll have to wait till then to see what's up. Think I've decided to stick with it, can't wait to start.
