Hey everyone... just like the title says, they're good! Check this...

I was driving the other day, and came to a light... then some idiot tapped me in the back enough to jolt me a lil. I got out mad and scared to look at the damage, but NOTHING. There was a very small scratch. I didn't bother with the kids cause I wasn't in a good neighborhood and I didn't want trouble, plus the bumper was fine.

Then, tonight I'm driving on the highway, and some idiot is riding my tail, so I keep cautious with him. Then the traffic ahead is slowing down, then slows down really fast. I'm doing smart braking as to keep him as far away as possible without him hitting me (since our brakes are wonderful!), and right before we come to a complete stop he hits me! I motion for him to pull to the shoulder and he does. I go to the back of my car to see the damage again and NOTHING. The only thing I noticed was a small paint chip. This time I get his information, but I didn't call the cops or anything, cause we would have been out there for hours. He gave me his info and I said "be careful!"

Now I'm considering what I should do... since there is no major damage, maybe just some paint off... should I call him up and just tell him to send me some $$$? Or should I just let it slide and be thankful that it wasn't worse?

I'm leaning towards letting it go since it's not a big major deal...

i dunno im pretty honest so i would prolly take it in just in case there is damage behind the bumper, which happens often, as it did in my RX7...i told the b**** that practically did a monster truck with her family van on the front of my T-Rex to leave cause i didnt see any damage, and then when i turned on my lights that night, the lights got stuck up because there was a bent bar behind the bumper that i didnt see on first inspection...too late by then!

So you're saying that I should take it in to check just in case? What if it IS damaged, would it be fair to call him and tell him the damage? Or is it too late, as I didn't make a claim or get cops to come?

no its not too late, you have his insurance right? im not saying to try to screw the guy, but its a free estimate at the dealer and it cant hurt to make sure...thats what i would do...it would suck if next year you go to install an exhaust or something and get under your car and find out s*** is messed up...just my opinion...

Oh s***... all I got was his name, phone #, and tags... but he was pretty scared, so if anything is wrong, he'll most likely give up the info anyway.

P.S. That means I have to take my ss and intake off now! AHHH, well maybe I'll do it soon when I take it to get inspected, then they can check it then... I hope nothing is wrong, I would hate to have to call the guy up to pay up.

no you wouldnt have to take that stuff off i dont think...i got an esitmate on this ding someone put in my door and the guy just came out to my car and looked at it...but my dealership is cool....i have like the only modded mazda anywhere around and they are always excited to see my car...i feel bad not washing it before i go because they look disappointed lol...but in any case, dont feel bad, s*** happens thats why you got his number and tags...im sure hell be nice if you are :) and if hes not, you report him to the police...99 percent chance if you see no damage, youre fine - i just wanted to let you know what happened to me cause i screwed up once, and THAT was a b****...it was like the front bumper was painted so well it didnt crack, but it damaged underneath

So in case he doesn't cooperate, I still win? I mean I didn't stay for police to write a statement or anything?

About the dealership, I think the ones around here are anal. I went to one and they were like "yeah it would void warranty" right off the bat. I'll try a different dealer to see what's up there.

So in case he doesn't cooperate, I still win?

Yea, because you arent a damn body repairmen..you really dont know s*** about s***, and if there is a problem just say what did you want me to do officer, call the damn dealership out here for a fender bender? i toook it to them after and turns out there was damage, now the guy doesnt pay, wtf...

I see, i see.... sounds good! I'll take a quick look myself tomorrow and see... if not, i'll wait til the beginning of Sept to get my inspections at the dealer and tell them to check it out.

Hey man, I got rearended a year ago and it didn't seem that bad either. I took it to my friends bodyshop and had the cover pulled off to find that the bumper bar underneath was pushed in to the frame. It's like to square tubings, one inside the other. I would have yours checked!

Hmmmmm... thanks for the info! By any chance, would you know how much a bumper would be in that case?

Grab a flash light, and peak under your car..

I got rear ended in december, just a scratch on the bumper, and a little damage to the styrofoam on the inside..

I was lucky there, but look, you can get screwed..

bumpers can be expensive because i believe they have to paint it a certain way due to it being a different material...i would say excess of 500 at a dealership...if you mess up a little paint, normally they want to paint a whole bumper also, leading to the high cost

hmm.. I got nudged by one of my friends a while back and didnt see any damage so I left it like it was. I might have to take off the cover and see, allthough I doubt there is anything there. Now I just need to find the time to do all of this.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

Thanks a lot guys! I'm just a sucker for being too nice, so I would be a little hesitant to call him and tell him that it's gonna cost (that's if it's messed up though, *crossing fingers*) Feel me?

Hell ya it's strong..

I got rear ended a couple of months ago while slowing down cuz the car right next to me was in an accident and the idiot driver behind me was lookin at the car next to me and hit my rear driver's side bumper and took out the lights, my bumper was all scratch up but no dents. we got down to look both cars and his 98 Nissan Quest's front driver's side light was messed up and a big dent right under it, on the bumper!...i was so glad...and ya..our bumpers are pretty strong...i paid $300 US dollars to get it painted, they guy said something about having to take all the paint off, then prime it and paint it...took a total of 3-4 workin days!...our paint might be crap, but our bumpers sure aren't!:D

i accidentally backed up into frogmans yellow p5. i was going VERY slow. no damage at all., but i still feel bad :(

hmm bumpers are expensive the back one on my 2nd gen was 300 that was the cover... not the actual bumper metal thing... godonly knows how much taht would be

i cant imagine being at a meet and banging up someones mazda, god how awfuli would feel

Yeah that would suck... I'm just glad our braking is so excellent, because I was actually slowing down WHILE looking at this idiot making sure that if he did hit me, it would be while I was still moving, so that it could absorb some of the damage. It's crazy watching in front to not hit the car, and the back to not get hit! Could have definitely been worse...
