I am looking into picking up a mazda 6s atx at the end of aug, but am unsure about something..

Options i want

sports
moonroof
MP3 player

But as you all know if you get the moonroof, you need to get the bose, can i just ask the dealer to take some money off the stock bose stereo and stick in the mp3 player? How exactly does the work. If i could i would get the stock stereo and add mp3 player, and upgrade speakers myself. Another question, the reason i am getting the 6 is cuz i am a family man now, and need the car for family stuff, so I dont want a big honken sub in my trunk. Would a aftermarket sub fit in the bose sub spot?

thanks for the info..

The sub is in the spare. It's a neat design, but i'm not sure how you'd get another sub to fit without some car modification. The floor of my hatch (and, i assume, the sedan's trunk) sits flat with the current sub. I don't know if you could add another sub and get the floor to be flat unless you put it off to the side somehow (or on top of the floor bottom). Sounds like a little bit of a job.

And you can get the MP3 put in anyway. There's another spot left under my 6-disc dash changer. I say on Mazdastuff.com (and a ton of other OEM sites) that you can buy the MP3 player to put in there. So maybe you could get the Bose and add the MP3 player. Personally, i plan to add the cassette due to the MP3 adapter i have. Then i can just bring my USB MP3 player in the car connecting it through the arm rest's hole (located under the carpet of the armrest) and plug it straight into the 12V accessory plug. Then i don't have to cut those MP3 discs just to play MP3s in the car.

Just an idea...

I think your sub is in your trunk cuz you have the hatch, the sedan's sub is located on the back deck. Where the other speakers are located..

I thought the mp3 player would replace the 6 disc. I would like the stock mp3 player so that i can control it through the stering wheel. I burn cds alot anyway cuz my home system has an mp3 player too..

just so you know the sub is only in the spare tire well in the hatch otherwise the sub is a free air sub hanging in the dack deck of the sedan. Also you can get the bose with the mp3 player they just replace the 6 disc

the only other audio options we have are 6disc, mp3, MD, or tape but mazda is suppose to be getting a satelite radio available soon

So can I put an aftermarket sub in the orignal spot on the sedan? Also if i did get the bose would they deduct the price of the 6 disc to install an mp3 player? If i could get the moonroof alone, my problem would be solved.. Also, how many pre-outs are there on the mp3/bose setup?

My dealer kept saying he could always add the roof. Maybe you can add that stuff later? He said the roof would cost $900, but would come with a lifetime warranty. Don't know if that's just a DE thing or not.

Tim, is that normal for moonroofs? Lifetime warranties, i mean? And is that price about right?

Man I wish I got my moonroof aftermarket get one bigger with one touch open/close and auto shut when the car is off. you could put a new sub in that spot some have done it but I would make sure it is a free air sub.

Pretty much what i wanted to know.. Just outta curiousity, i did not take a close look at the dealer, but what does the moon roof do? Does it tilt? or is it just open and close?

both tilt and open close.

A few questions re: power/mp3/Bose/etc

I just bought the Mazda3 4 door myself tonight (thumb)

Although it has the Bose system, let's face it, I'm used to a butt-kicking, guitar-crunching, Tinnitus-aggravating sound that's loud, tight, and solid.

An aftermarket shopping trip is in order.

I'm thinking of adding a Bazooka in the back again (LOVED it in my Jetta V6).

I'd also like an MP3 player. When on my test drive he told me there IS a harness kit to add an aftermarket player right below the controls on the dash, but it voids the warranty (for just the stereo or everything electronic is the question?)

I wonder if the Bose speakers are strong enough to handle the power of a stronger amp? And is the existing amp strong enough to handle an added Bazooka bass tube and/or a Head Unit to play MP3's? The Monsoon system in my 2001 Jetta was amazingly strong in the speaker AND the amp department to handle everything I added. Got a very tight, solid, crisp, crunchy sound. LOVED it and miss it already ha ha (music is my life).

Still can't find an answer here if the steering wheel controls can control an aftermarket HU?

P.S. This site rules. So much info... gotta love it (cheers)

There is a dash kit for aftermarket headunit(Turbo 2). I haven't heared the factory MP3 player but the regular cd players are of good playing quality as long as there isn't a slight imperfection in the roadway. This means if you lower the car, expect the cd to skip most of your drive. If you go aftermarket the steeringwheel cotrols are maintained thru http://www.crutchfield.com/S-j8r4huwNvyb/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=118900&I=127SWIX

Even those with high end oh so mighty bose ditched the stock speakers ;) Another project done by few was re runing the wires to the back door from amp cause the have like no power whatsoever stock. I had subs to distract me from the non loud rear speakers.

If you plan on aftermarket route see this vender in this thread.

If it comes with a BOSE, they will charge you to -remove- the BOSE, and then charge you for the MP3, and then charge you to install the MP3. It ends up being about a $750 deal (at least that is what I was told on my MazdaSpeed6.)

And THEN you loose your 6 disk capacity, 'cause the MP3 is only a single player.

In other words ... the options royally sucketh. Personally, for $750 I converted my MP3's back to regular CD's and stuck them in the multi-disk player. Somewhere down the road (I tend to hang on to vechicles for a while ... my "other" car is a 1989 Ford Probe GT ... I'm the orig owner) I'll replace it with something else/better/more capable.

Have you read the cd changer threads here yet? ;)

There is also the hooking an Ipod up to your car option.
Can be done thru wires or FM Modulator. If song capasity is your ultimate goal then MP3 player that you can play with in and outside th ar is the beter option IMHO. I never seen a car where the cd player skips like it does.
