Opinions on CURRENT Windows Vista?

buy a mac

over my dead body!

Stay away from Vista.

XP in its current form is just fine.

macs are annoying (I say this as a graphic artist). I don't so much have a problem with Macs, as much as I have a problem with the mac/apple culture.

I find the correlation between apple/macs & snobbery to be astounding.

beware of laptops with loaded with vista..
theres a rumor that goes like this:
Microsoft only allows newly built computers/laptops to come preinstalled with VISTA and one of the rules for them to be able to sport the "DESIGNED FOR VISTA" logo is to onl have drivers with vista.

i recentl bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop that came preloaded with VISTA...i went ahead and even before booting it the first time, formatted the ******..
well...to my surprise, theres no XP drivers available anywhere...some people tried some OMEGA ATI drivers, they work ok, but with alot of bugs...sound card drivers are nowhere to be found...and the ones that work makes the computer hiccup for 10 seconds at a time!!

i decided to re-install vista and be done with it..gave the laptop to the wife and i got hers...a DELL inspiron E1505 laptop..
mang...both a core duo, both have 1gb of ram, both have the same screen...the dell is a bit heavir but i love it...

i have a dual boot of win2k3 and XP...and it handles both like a champ...the toshiba wasn't too happy about win2k...drivers for video never installed and having 16 colors in a computer screen in 2007, is just not acceptable...

try looking for a used laptop that came designed for XP....new laptops suck...

they all have the same capabilities as las year's laptops but wihtout the XP capability...

micro$oft sucks...

Vista is on 3 of 4 of my machines. No issues. I hear and see everyones complaints but I have yet to experience any myself. there is no single huge reason to get Vista if you like XP. Dell still sells machines with XP. Personally, I'll never go back, there's just too many little things in Vista that I love too much.

Do not "upgrade" to Vista. Clean install only.Upgrades have never been reliable. And remember, nobody liked XP at first either and now everyone swears by it. Vista certified Drivers/software is the key to stability.

MAybe once it's all cleaned up I'll switch. But for now XP serves me just fine. I will say when M$ decided to make Halo 2 vista only, that put a bad taste in my mouth.

Macbook's FTW, all others FTL, I have a Sony Vaio, never used it once I picked up my black beauty. I'm selling it now.

As for Vista, I love it but on my AMDX25200 with a Gig of ram, a Nvidia 7900GT GPU, iTunes moves like a slug, but on the Macbook, it runs like butter, and it has a crappy Intel Graphics chip! Intel Core Duo2 Processor though.

My friend experiences problems on her new laptop that I never got, ever.

I agree with the minority and say get Vista. With a beefy enough machine it is superior to XP in every way except for driver support.....but even with that, for "normal use" I'm sure you'll be fine.

our company refused to put vista on any of there computers do you have Dell over there?because Dell will sell you a laptop with vista on it but if you ask them they will put xp on it for you at no cost to you vista has and does have so many issues and there are so many drivers that are not compatible, still you can try out vista type add ons if you like to see how it goes one is called xp3d but to be honest i would stay away just now

It all depends on what kind of computer you want.

I have 3 computers in my house. Laptop with XP, Desktop with XP, and Desktop with VISTA.

I must say I really enjoy the interface of vista alot more then xp or any other. It runs very fast and I can have over 20 tabs open at once ((doh) not kidding). But the thing I like most is that unlike what many people say, it is very stable (boom07). In older windows whenever one tab froze the whole computer would lockup. In XP it is rare, but does happen. I have been running vista ever since it came out and have never had it crash or lock up. Ctr+Alt+Dlt can get out of the program and close it no problem (even if it is a game).

BUT......you need to have a hefty computer to have it run correctly and to its full potential.
I built mine from scratch:
22 LCD monitor
AMD AthlonX2 64 5200.
320 GB SATA HD
ASUS Mobo
NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT video card
4 GB of ram (with 2 slots open for 8GB max ram)
And alot more (has 3 medium fans, 3 small fans, and a heat sink too keep it cool).

I built it primarily for multimedia, gaming and engineering programs (CAD and such). The only problem I have had is there are still some drivers that are not set up for VISTA, especial if its for older things, like my 6 year old printer. I say unless you have alot of ram, good video card, and better than average computer skills, stick with XP for now. I for one am sticking with VISTA.

i have a desktop running XP and a laptop running Vista and so far I have not ran into a single problem that would make me steer away. when I first picked up the laptop I could not play GTA san andreas. so i downloaded a new driver from the micro$oft website and that is all I needed.

I always download the updates and 0 problems so far.
The laptop has:
Pentium Dual Core
1gig ram
intel video card

bought it for about 500 new and am very happy with it. I say go for the vista unless your mom finds a good deal on a new one with XP.

i may be mistaken but aren't drivers the responsibility of the hardware manufacturer? i understand the frustration with not having them for your hardware but it's not microsoft's fault the drivers aren't there it is the creator of the hardware's fault.

the only way for MS to guarantee 100% hardware compatibility is to do what apple does and only offer you a whole computer with its preapproved hardware which would then lead to people complaining about lack of choice and how MS is just trying to make more money and eliminating competition and how you have to go to them if it breaks and all of that stuff

Bam! I wish I had done this but I took the cheaper route and got a laptop with vista. I hate it.
oh and if you really want windows just run boot camp on a mac.

Yup thats exactly what I have. Partitioned the drive so the majority is for OS X but set aside a good bit to run XP for all my engineering software needs, works like a charm.

dont' even get me started on Mac's. We support them here at work, and they are not what they are all hyped up to be.

my sentiments exactly overrated and overhyped.

My PC has never given me any trouble ( then again I built it myself)
