Opened trunk while changing fob battery!

I must have pressed the trunk button while I changed the battery in my fob. It never happened before perhaps because I was beyond the transmitter range but yesterday I was closer to the vehicle. Thank God my good neighbor texted me as my trunk was opened for about 2 hours and it started to snow...The way I park and the way the house is built, I couldn't see through the windows or front door. Lesson learned, next time I change the fob battery I'll make sure the trunk is closed!

Same thing happened to me when my wife asked me to change the battery in her fob. The car was parked in the garage and I was in my office about 100' or so away, but not far enough to prevent my inadvertently hitting the button and raising the hatch up into the open garage door. Just finished putting the final application of touch up paint on the resulting scratch, a frustrating if not entirely pointless excercise on Soul Red Crystal Metallic paint!

There is new bulletin for the large key fobs.
Mazda is changing (under warranty cars only) the key logic to add more time when the button is pressed before it triggers.

It is a a widely known problem. the trunk key action time is too quick.

That wouldn't have made a difference in my case as I was unaware the hatch had been signaled to open from where I was on the other side of the house.

Thinking about it, I believe my mishap happened when I removed or reinstalled the front and back covers on the fob. I hope my post will help others avoid this nuisance.

We learn from our mistakes. Next time I think I'll sit in the car while changing the fob battery. This way I'll see if the trunk opens.;)

This happened to me two days ago. Accidentally popped the trunk open in my garage against the garage door. The hatch got snagged on the garage door. Luckily only a couple scratches and not completely ripped off.

Do you know what the TSB number is?

Then people would b**** about that: Why do I have to hold the button for 3 seconds!!! lol
No pleasing everyone.
