Open Source Tuning?

I was asked a question today that I didn't know the answer to. A subie friend of mine asked if there were open source tuning solutions for the MS6/MS3.

I don't THINK There are, but does anyone know for sure?

u seem to be not asking about open source, but freeware... no there is no free tuning, id say the cobb ap lets u change whatever u want, something being open source only means the uncopiled code is available to the public free of charge but most of the time with certain terms of use, but ppl use the term more and more to mean free, when thats not what that means, freeware is a word too u know... as far as open source, if you knew what do with source code for a car tuning app or whatev, i don't think u'd have to ask

hope i wasn't too blunt there, i don't mean to come off rude, but ye, open source vs freeware... two diff things, i don't think anything is ever open source in the car world, cuz every car has its own bs to overcome, even the AP has gone through updates, making source to things like that available would only make more problems than it would solve, since open source alot of times comes with limited support, since most open source projects are done or financed by universities, which by definition make knowledge a public resource

anyways, like i said, hpe

I believe you're thinking of EcuEdit, and it is available for Mazdas. I don't see too many guys talking about it, but there are options for tuning through that.

really ecuedit works on mazdas? i thought only up to odbI cars worked with ecuedit, reliably, some older ones do, but isnt there some sort of manufacturer encryption that needs to be broken in order to use any old pc to tune an ecu... hence cobb sells that info with a small computer (i mean think about it, the cobb ap is 700$ for that money u could easily get a laptop and ecu edit and a usb to odb cable and have urself a go at flashing the ecu, i think the ap is just slightly more proprietary

I thought that too, but there are Mazda drivers using the ecuedit software successfully. We'll see if they blow motors or whatever, but for now, it appears to be working.
