Once a lurker, now an owner

I would recommend a shortshifter along with those bushings. I have a B&M because it was the first I found available when I bought my P5 4yrs ago. Makes the car feel much tighter and faster.

If you are thinking about lowering but not too much, you may want to consider
the Racing Beat springs. About .75 inches around, so not too low and will help your good handling even more.

.75 inches isn't bad. I am also worried about ride quality, as my wife will be driving it. Does anybody have feedback and/or pics of these?

The questions have begun...time to do more 'search'ing

Well, I have the Eibachs but I can tell you that RB has had a close association with Mazda for many years and the springs you'd be getting iirc are the same as
the stock springs on the MP3 model. So they handle well but can't be too overly stiff--it would scare away too many potential buyers.

Hey, where are you located? I think I saw that car when I was shopping online so it has to be close to me in Augusta, GA.

BTW, I'm picking up my white 02 p5 Friday. I had a 00 protege that some people might remember with n20, fully shaved, dark green, but I traded up for a truck. I couldn't stand it so I'm going back to the protege fold....I missed this forum.

Tein S-Tech springs on stock struts, no compromise in ride quality and perfect drop.

A few important things. If your wife will be the primary drive I would stick with the stock springs, mainly for ride-height considerations. Get Tociko Blues (non-adjustable) when you need struts. Also, the FS-DE engine has a timing chain so no maint. is needed there. There is an accessory belt, but if this fails you'll loose power steering and and if you don't park it in short order the car might overheat. But if your mindful of the signs of a broken belt, then there is really no point in spending the money to replace the belt until it breaks.

I just order Hawk HPS pads along with Brembo blank rotors for what its worth (I have 49K miles on the car).

I have the Corksport Bronzoil bushings and they make a significant difference in shifter feel. I will probably pair them with the Kartboy bushings at some point. Mind you, the shift will not fell like any from a RWD car and deff not like a Miata or RX-8, but it will be better.

I commute in traffic; the stop and go was causing my engine to thrash around and the bucking was not making my wife very happy so I got RR Racing motor mount inserts. The NVH inside the cabin deff increases but the bucking is decreased tremendously. I only have the fronts installed at the moment, partly because the rear inserts are hard[er] to install and partly because I was concerned that the NVH might be too high for the wifey. Of course, restricting the movement of the front mount only puts more stress on the rear, so the front-only set-up can only be considered an intermediate step.

I like the wheels

If you park the car in friendly confines then I recommend that your remove your side mouldings

Good luck

Thanks for all the replies. This car is indeed the one for sale in the Savannah area. I jumped on it real quick. I'll have to post some more pictures soon.

I have been looking into rear sway bars. It seems peoples opinions are too go with the sway bar before springs. I might try that.

I've already installed the karboy bushings...it's tightened it up a little, but not too much. I don't think the wife would dig the short shifter. I think the only other thing I would do to the engine would be a header, but not sure if the hp gain is worth it.

Well, it's cool to have another Georgia owner! I just got back from picking up my white p5 an hour ago. So far, I love it. It's great to be back in a protege!

I will do a brake job soon...question is, I want to go with better than oem pads. I've seen hawk and green stuff at protege garage; can anyone recommend others or have experience with these?

as far as hawk vs green stuff...i have the best review for you...two of the guys here in houston (actually bf/gf combo as well as both of them owning msps) put green stuff on one and hawk on the other and tested them out side by side. the green stuff stopped much better and she (green stuff)was more satisfied than he (hawk)was with the feel. no...i use carbotech brake pads which i love...although im needing to replace them soon which is why i didn't line up with them to test all 3 together. not too many people around here use carbotech but ill most likely be buying a new set pretty soon.
