On our way to Apex Sponsorship

i was thinking that we should stick w/ what we've been doing as far as mazdasports membership: as long as you drive a mazda and live in arizona you are already in. but if this sponsorship thing goes through there should be an experimental period w/ new members until they can receive whatever benefits the sponsorship will bring to mazdasports. they will still be a member but just won't be able to take advantage of whatever perks other "more experienced" members get until the experimentation period is over. just my .02

sponsorship stuff aside, let's remember that this club was founded on a general enthusiasm for our mazdas and its ability to handle twisties at twice the speed posted. we were also drawn to the fact that the club's dynamics were loose enough yet close knit enough that we didn't need a governing body that oversaw everything.

perhaps in the end, it is this lack of stringent guidelines for club membership that has created a sort of chaos with the recent announcement of sponsorship.

just my thoughts, no real offers for solutions.

i was just about to say that truc. just because we are on the verge of sponsorship doesn't mean that we should change the way we do things. remember, the goal of mazdasports is not to accumulate as many sponsors as we can but rather to simply enjoy fellowshipping w/ others who have the same interests as us. we have to make sure that we get compensated very well for our role in the sponsorship because of the possible changes we are considering making to our group. otherwise it is not even worth it in my opinion

I was just refering to membership requirements if we get a bunch of people jumping on the band wagon just for the discounts of APEX Motorsports and not really having anything to do with the club.

This system that we have is awesome. Somebody makes a suggestion and we all discuss it. It seems to work out in the end and we have all been brought closer because of it.

i agree bill, and that is why i proposed my idea regarding new members. if they have a problem w/ attending a couple of meets b4 they can reap the benefits of sponsorship then they don't need to be apart of mazdasports.

I have no problem with getting to at least 3 meets to become a more .. prominent? new member. I am in this becuz I was overly impressed with my protege when I bought it and I have always loved cars. Even if I dont know everything about do-it-yourselfing yet I am learning as I go. Also in my own defense I didnt want to put anything on the list cuz I was new but brandon sent me an email asking me to reply to it so I did =). I think I had a point when I began this reply then I stopped and stared at family guy for 10 minutes and I totally blanked on it. I wanna meet people and I love my car, nuff said =)

just to reiterate, we're not pointing fingers at anyone... it just seemed strange that the list grew quickly from 22 to 29 in a matter of minutes after the announcement of sponsorship, so the whole restructuring of membership and the club itself is under examination for future reference. don't no one go take it personal now. it's not directed at the 7 people... just that it made us realize we have to take precaution to the potential abuse that could result from people who are more interested in saving a buck, which totally disrupts the dynamics of the group.

We have quite a few modify your car and BBQ's. Wait until the first Sunday in June for one of the best meets the club has to offer if I do say so myself

I was just reading up on the protegefest I could definitely get the time off and $ isnt a problem if I have enough warning but my car has no engine mods as of yet and my car might be a bit of a let down?

protegefest will have cars ranging from fully stock to fully modified. it'll be a good turnout. don't worry about your car being in its stock form.

I like that we as a group do not have a president or leader. I say that we continue to run our group as is, giving everyone a equal voice. Should a newby wish to join our group, we encourage them to:

1. Attend as many events, meets or car runs as they can.
2. Use this forum to communicate with others with suggestions and opinions.
3. Agree that they will be put on a 60 probation period to be eligable for sponsorship.

If you have more to add please do.

Eli

I see we are starting to agree on this. It seems that none of us want a bunch of poeple just joining for the APEX discounts and not doing anything with the club.

Eli was that a 60 minute, 60 day, or a 60 year porbation?

60 day probation period. :p

This was my only point to this topic..."This club was formed by mazda enthusiasts to get together, meet new friends and have FUN. It will remain this way, sponsorship or not."
As John and I and the rest of you know the website is working great for a recruiting tool. Along with the website we have tag cards. We also have our very own mAZdasports merchandise (one shirt so far). I guess what my point is really is that there is no limit to how many members we could recruit on any given day. As of a few days ago 29 members didn't look right. Even for me. That doesn't matter anymore.
I know when I had the interest of joining the group there wasn't any problem. Nothing said. I was in because I showed the interest, had a p5 and was one hip dood. If you recruit someone or try to, you can tell right away if the guy/gal is a jerk or not. I don't see that with anyone here. Showing the interest to jump online and chat it up with us is proof enough for me. Oh god im showing my true feeling for you guys. shat!

Nuff said. I agree. How bout the rest of you guys? (majority rule?)

1. Attend as many events, meets or car runs as they can.
2. Use this forum to communicate with others with suggestions and opinions.
3. Agree that they will be put on a 60 day probation period to be eligable for sponsorship.
