I got one a few months back and its a generic style and it came with these brackets that are not bent or molded to fit anywhere. They are just straight and I know I have to drill the hole for temp sensor, But was wondering if any of you guys actually used one and if it works ok?

I tried a search but forund mainly stuff on the injen or Aem brands?

I believe cmack98 has installed one. Perhaps Craig will step up and tell you what you want to know.

cmack as a Ractive...so do I. It installs just like any other intake...

Hey guys whats shaking???

Hey Matt, thanks for the heads up, hopefully I will be able to help and see whats up.

Anyway, I got mine off of ebay as well. The place that shipped it to me said they were called MEGAN Racing. Whatever works...I have heard it is the same thing as a reactive intake....I'm pleased with it so far...

However, I didn't have to drill any holes whatsoever for mine to work.

if you go to http://photos.yahoo.com/cmack98.geo find my Protege5 folder. I think I have some pics of the intake to see how its on there. Mine came with one bracket thing that really wasn't molded to fit anywhere inparticular. I attached one end to the bolt holes near the batter compartment, and attached the top end of the thing on one of the holes for that Air Sensor thing. It is sturdy enough to securly hold the intake in place. It doesn't shimmy or budge, and it is being firmly supported, so in that respect its all good, but yeah, it looks kind of McGuyvered up...

Later!

cmack98, did you paint the rubber hoses or did they come like that?

I too purchased one of these eBay filters, and I'm pleased with the performance gains. Mine came with 2 brackets, but they were both straight. I first placed it by the sleve cylinder, but it had to much movement. So I relocaded it to right side of the car, by the coolant reservoir. I didn't have to drill anything, the holes were already there from the factory airbox. It's SO much better now! Nice and tight! They only problem I have now is one of the polished pipes hits the master cylinder brake under accelation, but only in first gear. Other than that I have no problems with. Heck, I only paid $55.00 including shipping!

Here's a pic

Hey there,

My hoses and all that came yellow, so it looks nice in the car. I also didnt have to drill anything either. I just found holes that were already there (used for the stock air filter) and just have it secured that way. No rubbing that I know of, and it was a good $50 spent!

Later,

so had anybody had any rubbing issues with these. Somebody was telling me the ebay ones sucked for rubbing on the master cylinder

Does that answer your question?

I'm getting the front engine mount replace with a Mazdaspeed polyurathane solid unit. That should take care of the rubbing problem, plus the wheel hop as well.

There's about a 1/3"+ gap between the master cylinder and the pipe, but the engine rocks SO much it hits anyway. I think the pipe is either not shapped properly, or simply too big in diameter.

i got both motor mounts in, i wonder if mine wouldnt rub.

You should be just fine.

It made such a BIG difference!

You can't go wrong, the actual filter looks just like a K&N - same quality. $55 including shipping is a heck of a deal if you ask me.

You still have plenty of cash left to buy a short shift, engine mount, and lunch money for a few days, compared to Injen or AEM intakes.

Performance difference? Well, I'll challenge anyone with an Injen or AEM ram!

It LOOKS like a Kn, but it does not even come close to the performance..... K&N, if you lok closely, it a bucn of plastic sheet layed on top of eachother.... the one you have, me too so i am not putting you down, is just basic cloth like the stock filter soaked in red dye.

Oh and for the rudding.... you can just adjust the bracket to make it stronger and not to ben.... i made mine triangular, so it wont move at all. That solved my rubbing problem.... but i am still working on making my own intake... just so its perfetly straight after the bend around the master cylinder... and i am only going to use 2.5 inch pipe...not the 3 inch.. that will not rub at all either.

by the way... about hese engine mounts.... anyone know what installation might cost on these things? what do they improve either then the engine having seizures on start up?

i dont know how much they are to install. My buddies and i installed mine. the front mount took 30 minutes. the back to about 3-4 hours. the cure some of the wheel hope as well as the seizures.

well my brother bought me one for christmas. 5 days of driving with it and NO rubbing. Ill post pics tonight i have some at home. I only have one braket holding them. I have the motor mouths so it doesnt move much.

You have the MazdaSpeed Engine mounts? If so, both or just the front?

Also, where exactly did you place the bracket?
