Oh HELL YEAH. Got the soft AWR bushings in!

Interesting that putting the front one in too caused more vibration.....

I have another question too --- I have the AWRs sitting right here and I flat out cannot get the bushings out! They will not budge. To me it looks like the bushing is all 1 piece and has a ridge on each end that prevents it from moving at all. But then again my mounts also have a metal ring in the inside - is that normal? I'm confused here....

Also, I emailed Jim Fab and he said he's developing a 70 dur mount because he tried 65s (and 65s are available) but they were too soft and got destroyed too easily. I'm hoping to get the 70 dur ones from him if I can't figure out HTF you got your bushings out of the AWR ones!

Who is Jim Fab?

Anyway, slip that metal sleeve out of the center, and then pull the bushings out.

Thanks for the help guys - no wonder I couldn't get the bushings out....damn metal sleeve.

Jim Fab is another guy who races the cup proteges. He sells the AWR mounts on his site -- www.jimfab.com -- and they are actually cheaper than anywhere else I've found. MUCH cheaper than protege5-online. He said his bushing people are developing a 70 dur bushing - I hope to give that a try.

The 70 might be too soft. Maybe an 80. Well, maybe you can get a set to test! I'm sticking with the 88's.

Didn't see anything about AWR mounts on his site. It sounds like he makes his own mounts. What's the cost?

^^

Also, when would the softer ones be available?

ok, I have a few questions...

what would you say the stock mounts are? you said that the 65's are too soft... but what are those compared to the stock ones?

also, if I get the 88's, do those still stop all of the engine movement at startup, and shifting gears? and wheelhop?

you say they are "automatic" mounts, Im not sure what that means.. does that mean for an automatic tranny? I have a manual, and that means the engine doesnt shift gears as smooth.. would that be a problem?

Im probably going to order some awrs for my MSP within a week.

get him to make some side mounts!!!!

LOL, I mentioned the 2 side mounts but he said that he didn't make them and doesn't know anybody that does. He didn't rule out developing some side mounts some day though. He said the softer ones (70 dur) would be available "in about 3 weeks" so I'm hoping to get them in a month or so. I am a little worried they might be too soft though -- I mean I'd prefer to error on the side of too hard rather than too soft. But shoot, for only $90 it's not too big of a risk money wise.

I asked him about the hard mounts and he said that they are the exact same as the AWR ones. Apparently he has his own "bushing people" though that can develop bushings.

I'll try to update again if I go ahead and get these....although the 88s are sounding really close to what I'm looking for.

i wouldnt go to soft.. the awrs feel great.. just those cold start ups and rattles get to me... Hopefully a little softer will do it, the ones that come with the mounts are basically solid.

Spud, Did you read the posts? I answered most of your questions.

Now for the Q's that haven't been answered. I have no idea what the stock mounts are, they are a low durometer but to complicate the measurement there are HUGE air gaps in the mounts. I also have no idea what the 65's would be like, but I can guess that they would be way too soft and would most likely be destroyed from the engine movement and might be close to the stock feel.

The 88's keep the engine from moving very well, shifting gears is improved from the lack of engine movement and wheel hop is reduced. The 95's and 88's, except for the vibration, feel the same as wheel hop, and engine movement go.

If you didn't read the other posts:
The only difference between the automatic mounts and the manual mounts are the bushings. The auto's are 88 durometer and the manuals are 95.

So If I want some softer mounts for my Speed just order the automatic ones I take it.

yeah i read the post, but I just wasnt sure if the "automatic" bushings would hold up with a manual, b/c the engine would take more of a "beating" with the harder shifts and launches...

no one knows much about the auto bushings yet.. mike is the first to test them, that i know of.. hopefully they hold up well to manual and lots of whp!!

The manual ones do the trick if you dont mind rattling, and extra engine noise.

Question:
I have AWR moutns, and the insert for the front motor mount is red, and the rear is black...
I havent had the time or effort to install the rear motor mount yet, and with just the front in, the car doesnt vibrate too bad at all.

Yeah, the auto ones are the softer. Paul is correct, no one has really tried the auto mounts on a manual yet. Only time will tell. We need a few people with AWR mounts and turbo's to spend the 9 bucks and an hour to try the bushings out on the rear.

As for the color of the bushings, it should not make a difference, as long as they are the same durometer. The rear mount makes all the difference with vibration.

wierd.. i have only seen or heard of red for both.. do the feel the same stiffness?

.

I hope i can do it in an hour this time... I think with the plastic wirebracket removed and the right tools this might be possible.. The first time was hell (pissed) .. I think now i know the tricks 1-2hrs should be possible.

I was able to do mine in less than hour and a half. In an ice covered driveway, about 30*F. The things I do for my car....
